Hi,
Has anyone upgraded to this, or has it on a new device, if so, what do you think, please? I am wondering whether to download it or stick with 10.
Thanks,
Julia
I have both 10 is better for me. I don’t use the 11 computer for this reason
Thanks, Brian. I am happy with 10 but the upgrade has been showing for a while but I just can't bring myself to go for it. That is why I thought I would seek opinions.
Thanks, Dave! That was very useful especially knowing windows 10 will be supported till 2025. I will stick with that for now. 😊
@short-dong I didn't understand any of what you just said. It truly is like reading a totally different language.

MultiProcessor vs MultiCore vs Hyper-threading
MultiProcessor is having separate multiple CPU units in a single machine (a single motherboard).
A single processor can have multiple core. Each core is capable to handle a separate execution of instructions. Hence if we are running a multithreaded application each thread can run in 'parallel' in each core.
A single core might be capable to run two parallel threads a well. This capability is known as hyper-threading. Each physical processor core is capable to run two threads simultaneously. The two threads share the core resources on hardware level. Operating system should optimize the use of hyper-threading. Operating system can also disable hyper-threading if it doesn't support it. Hyper-threading increases the number of independent instructions in the parallel. In a 4 Core processor there might be 8 logical processors.
If the computer has multiple processors/cores then different processes/tasks can take advantage of them and can run in truly parallel fashion.
Threads and Multithreading
Each process can create a sub-tasks, known as threads.
A thread is separate sequence of code instructions.
Multiple threads within the same process can communicate and share resources. The term concurrency refers to executing multiple threads at the same time.
Multithreading is used to improve performance of an application by dividing sequential instructions in multiple parts.
KEY POINT*
In a multithreaded program, multiple threads accessing critical sections and writing/reading shared data can be problematic if threads want to see the changes on shared variables made by other threads immediately.
WINDOWS 10
Windows 11
Therefore the allowing multiple threads to access critical section at the same time results in race condition. A race condition occurred when a program logic does not execute in the order the developer intended. Race condition produces incorrect results.
A lock is usually used to enforce a mutual exclusion policy.Mutual exclusion is also referred as thread synchronization.
For some games such as CSGO for example, USing an AMD cpu ( RYzen) using thi system on WIN 11 for example , if you have so many threads sending data back and forth through the GPU then it overloads the GPU and will drop game performace by 40%. In WIn 10 as you can see on the graph, it uses fewer threads and therefore there is less noise and presure on the GPU. It wil be better in the future to have WIN 11 in say 5 years when the software companies create products designed around thus new thread arcitecture.
Thread Contention
This is the situation where one thread is waiting for a mutual exclusion lock that is currently being held by another thread. Therefore, this waiting thread cannot use the locked resource until the other threads has unlocked it.
Disadvantage of thread contention is: it forces the scheduler to serialize operations, even if a free processor is available.
@short-dong For me to read that would be a cruel torture. I'm not sure I would survive it.
These threads are easy work for this Graphics Card. However they do not make fluid and beautiful flowing landscapes and do not require advanced machinery or techniques.
This worker is the Gpu ( graphics card), It is easy for the GPU to make these thread designs.
This is a multi threaded design, it creates huge beautiful and flowing landscapes. It requires more advanced Machinery and techniqes, and is very heavy work on the GPU ( graphics card)
We do not have the designs thought out, nor are we ready for such advanced techniques so we can produce them efficently. We will soon.
Playstation 5 have alreayd managed to do this, so PC's must play catch up and WIn 11 must be the starting block; so software must follow.
Here is playstation 5
