The only testing sites that specialize in artwork that I have heard of are Artemis Gallery in the US, and I think Oxford has a program in the UK. Are there any others that I should know about?
It seems pretty pricey, but a bulk order might be interesting later down the road...
I'm not sure exactly how reliable any TL testing site is. As far as I know if there is even one particle of a substance not of the period will render the test void. I'm not sure exactly how good TL tests are, or how Well they work, I'd be interested to know others opinions. Is it worth it? If the result are unreliable and you end up with holes drilled in your potentially authentic porcelain, with a certificate saying it's a modern fake
I know some of my pieces have already been tested, but I dont have complete records. One of the testing sites agreed to compare pictures of my object to their archive to affirm that the test was done.
Oxford is reliable, some say the only reliable firm. No need to worry about holes in porcelain, as far as I know only pre Ming can be tested. I have a neolithtic jar from Brian Page that came with an Oxford test and the holes are practically invisible.

It's a repaired Tang dynasty figure. I sent it to Peter who said it looked correct, but TL testing would be the only way to know for sure. I live in the US.
Would probably wait until I have more items for a group test, since this attendant isnt super valuable.
Dear Russel,
Unfortunately I do not know about Labs within USA.
Here in Europe there are many, and for sure it must be the same in your Country.
It is important to understand how they work, not all them are acting the same way.
I did ask about the purpose of testing because, if it was in view of reselling at the big auction houses, it is not worth to do it. They are now not giving much importance to the TL tests, as it was in the past.
Regards,
Giovanni
That aspect is in the back of my mind, but I also like knowing about the items that I own.
Then you should look for a handy and reliable Lab.
To give you an idea, here they span from Oxford Authentication which is the more expensive one but not the preferable one in my view (lack of communication with the Customer and, what IMO opinion is a scandal, they do not give you the graph of the test performed) to the not reliable ones (look at the ridiculous Tang statues regularly on sale at Catawiki from the same two sellers, all them TL tested by the same German Lab). By handy and reliable Lab I mean labs that are backed by a reputable scientist, and which are asking an honest price. If the result is only for your own knowledge and as such you do not need the certificate, they can even perform the test and tell you the result at half price.
Regards,
Giovanni
Keep in mind that fakers have found several ways to get around the TL test exposing their misdeeds. Collectors expect early pottery wares to have restoration so a genuine fragment can be incorporated into a made up piece. Fakers know test samples are generally taken from the undersides of figures or the bases of vessels. Years ago, I was told elaborate fake Tang style burial figures were being passed through medical X-Ray machines in China to fool the TL test procedure. These tests are rather expensive so it is usually uneconomical to have a TL done unless one has spent multiple thousands for the item.
Hi Russell -
Concur with Giovanni and William, who is quite right …
I can only add that several years ago that whilst in the storerooms of one of the major auction houses, we were shown/allowed to handle a supposed number Jun bowl. The size/shape/proportions/glaze characteristics/tone and ‘feel’of this piece all indicated it was ‘wrong’, yet it had undergone two independent TL test, both of which had provided a dating range indicating the piece was ‘authentic’ …
Such TL tests/results now provide no guaranty that an object is indeed ‘genuine’ …
