This piece of Jade has come up at a local antique shop that closing. They want me
to make them offer it a large piece I don’t know enough about Jade. My friend gone that does. I’m not in shape right now to do so if one of you would like too let me know. John

Firstly this carving is very modern.
Secondly it's difficult to determine if it's actually nephrite jade or serpentine by way of your images
Thirdly the quality regardless is very low.
You would need to perform a simple test using a pen knife (not hardened steel). Simply make a very small mark in a inconspicuous area and let me know if the mark is either white or black. White indicates serpentine as the material is softer than the blade.
If the owner does not allow you to do this then you could perform a sound test. But you will need a genuine untreated piece of jade and a short length of string or similar.
Remove the lid and attach the string to one of the handles/orher. Now it's suspended and free flowing. Gently tap it with the known piece of jade. It should make a pleasant high ring sound. A thud or dense sound indicates other material. It's best to perform this test over a soft landing like a couch etc and not over a hard surface!
If the owner does not allow you to perform any test then I would either not proceed with buying or making offers. Secondly you could provide me with clear pictures of the inside of both the lid and main body. I could perhaps give you further thoughts.
Your images are not clear enough or detailed for me to give you a definitive answer as I don't want to mislead you etc.
However, it's my opinion that it's highly probable to be serpentine and not jade. Serpentine often (but not always) has blotches of white. However not to be confused with mottled jade! If it is serpentine it's value in my opinion would be less than $50.
Because it's both modern and low quality if it was jade its value would also be low as collectors do not generally buy this sort of carving. So if genuine jade its value is about $150-200. Personally I would not buy this carving even if it was jade because it's modern and very low quality jade. But it's ultimately up to you if for some reason like it. I don't btw.
The two values I have provided are a guide only based on what values I have seen recently at auctions. And not retail. How much are they asking btw?

It in there shop so I couldn’t test it I wasn’t going to offer much from what I could see, these large pieces always make me Leary. The bottom had me thinking it was done on a modern lay i new you have more experience than me thanks John

Then if you can't examine it further I would not make any offers for the reasons already outlined in my previous reply.
If you wish to proceed then a offer of $50 would probably be OK. With little downside in effect.

I agree with Mark; it's a very modern carving, although I don't think it's Serpentine, at least not from the pictures. I would offer $40 and see if the owner is desperate to sell.
