Found this interesting tea bowl the other day. A "snakeskin"-type glaze with heavy, thick pooling. I know our friend @jbeer2121 has a very fine and old piece with the same effect. The unusual color of the interior is a shade of dark pink. Really not sure about the age. Could be more vintage than antique.

That's quite an amazing look. It looks like froth solidified. I have no idea about pieces like this, but I hope someone else does.

Thanks. I haven't found anything very similar either. Hagi, Shino and Satsuma are possible culprits.

As always nice find... looks like it sits perfectly in cupped hands. hope you've had some tea in it...
I'll add the pics below of the sharkskin glazed satsuma ( if I'm right) or Sakura ware(due to the iron decoration under the glaze) bowl... for context. probably out of order lol.
I'm guessing Hagi for yours, or some derivative, is the paste black? or is it just a deposit. I ask as I have found recently a mystery Mino box( pics below), or covered bowl/dish, and while the paste has or rather had a dark coating, it is a nice tan/ buff creamy color. Its a wierd nezumi or grey shino but with an iron red and and intended black looking past in the form of a wash which has since worn off. I'd think if yours is a coating or wash perhaps Mino kilns, or if black past Hagi, Karatsu(dark gray) or something like that.

Thanks! The clay is a dark brown with a black wash over all but the bottom of the foot. Mino, possibly Shino specifically, does seem the most likely fit.
I like that covered bowl. My 1st thought was Karatsu with some Kyoto mixed in. Just in style of course, there is no such thing as that mix 😄. I can't say I have seen one like it. I wonder if it was a set of five originally. It has nice patches of crackle on the underside, very wabi sabi. Clearly old. Nice find. That glaze is a luxurious brown isn't it, very chocolatey.

Incredible how bowls of tea have now become cups! It's amazing to see old vintage groceries being used as showpieces. While researching MBA personal statement help for my UK admission, I even ordered a few.
