I have thought auction houses Ike freeman’s trustworthy in regards of provenance. Now I see one item appearing not matching. Would anyone be able to point out anything I miss here?

Freeman’s is just using the information given to them more likely the consignor is given false information.
@lotusblack that makes sense, though I would think that they should have at least checked quickly. Anyway, this makes me even more careful with these auctions
I deal with Freemans and have a very high opinion of them, so I will reach out and bring this issue to their attention and ask for an explanation and will let you know what they say. My guess is that they meant to use the Bonhams piece just as a comp but didn't word it in a way that made it totally clear. John
@lotusblack They were Yuan bronzes though, not Song. If I find Song ones I might have to keep them. That has become my favorite dynasty.
@johnshoe oh that a nice one hope it does well. Either way they where nice bronzes.
Fyi I heard back from Freemans and they are going to remove the Bonhams provenance from the listing.

Firstly, I have never dealt with Freemans so can make no comment on them ...
I also lack the knowledge to say anything about the jades, bronzes, paintings or later ceramics been offered ...
I do, however, note the interesting descriptions given to certain lots ...
Lot 74, a blue and white guan catalogued as '15th/16th century or later', and Lot 102, a blue and white brush washer catalogued as 'Ming or later' ...
They certainly appear to be 'hedging there bets' somewhat, to say the least ...
Based primarily upon known painting styles, and other factors, I think the guan has litte age, the brush washer probably 'much later' - but just my opinion ...

@ming1449 bidding online needs lots of trust. Only true experts like people here or Peter could be confident based on knowledge and pictures. I still hope auction houses provide better service. To be honest, freeman’s probably is better than most already. For this dish, it’s listed with no hedging, so they must be very sure. The Bonhams provenance is just a small miss
@ming1449 In my experience Freemans is very cautious about what they take. They have a dedicated Asian department. With that said, they are a smaller operation than the big three, so they have more limited resources to work with. As we all know, certain pieces cause debate and disagreements even among experienced collectors and dealers. I would imagine those types of pieces can make auction house's jobs very difficult. Do you take a piece on that you think is probably authentic even if there could be a slight possibility it might be later? If you do, then having a bit more flexible description is sensible for honesty sake and legal liability reasons. Personally I don't have a problem with it if it is done for those reasons by a reputable auction house, which Freemans absolutely is.
