Hi,
Has anyone asked Peter whether the restriction on photo sizes is permanent?
If it is, I need to start learning how else to post photos but I am holding off doing so in the hope this is just a blip and we will get back to normal.
I did try the drag and drop and managed to do that but it was quite awkward and I didn't manage at all from my own photos. Just going to try cut and pasting one.
That doesn't appear to have worked either. 🙄
Julia
Hello Julia
It's very unfortunate indeed, almost a week now. I hoped it would be a fast fix but it seems I was wrong. Only way now is to share pictures via link, google photos is what i used to create album.
Best regards
Spartakos
You can Use CTLR C ( copy ) and CTRL V ( paste). If you find the paste option is not available then try CTRL V.
Thanks, both. I will have to look at the google photos option.
I seem unable to either drag and drop or cut and paste my own photos.
Perhaps I will email Peter and ask if the limit is permanent. I know the size of photos was an issue for the site maybe this is the only solution.
Hello, any new info about the photo restriction ?
Regards
Michael
You’d think in this day and age they’d have invented a way of resizing the photo in the process of uploading?
This size restriction exists on other sites and it absolutely kills a discussion because no one can see the item well enough to make a judgement.
I really hope it isn’t permanent!
64 b is a joke, I know sites with 2 mb restriction or 5 mb, that is ok, but 64 b ?
Hello,
Just heard about the IMAGE issue, I'll look into it...today and will report back when resolved.
best Peter
Peter
Thank you Peter.
Thank you Peter - much appreciated.
Stuart
Thank you!
I've been in touch for a while this afternoon with our site provider.
Apparently, some of the images that have been loaded onto the forum are extremely large. There were a total of around 17,000 images, roughly 600 of them were over 10 Mega Bytes each and another4,000 in the 4 MB to 9.99 MB range each and so on.
Total Images stored from the FORUM alone came in at around 40 Gigabytes.
We've gone ahead and removed some the biggest files to free up some space and are working to Migrate the site to a new platform arrangement that will allow more storage and enable the pages to load more rapidly.
In the meantime, we'll clean up some things which should help the situation until the change is made.
Growing pains happen once in a while, accept my apologies for the issue.
I'll let everyone know when it's been resolved.
Best to everyone, Peter
Peter
Dear Peter,
because of my age, and because of my mentality, I have many times tried to go against what is the common practice that is generally adopted on the Net. I have discussed this matter many times in other Forums, and really can’t understand why it is not adopted what is extremely logic.
Why do not impose a limit to the size and weight of the images? Allowing the uploading of images of big size when it is totally useless is a nonsense. A total non-sense. Why allowing the upload of pictures weighing 4 Mb when they are meant to be seen on a monitor, which resolution is a minimum fraction of that of those pictures? A non-sense.
It is estimated that Internet is currently consuming the 7% of the electrical power produced on the whole planet. And it is growing. Great part of this enormous waste is for totally useless things.
I hate un-necessary waste. When I receive a mail from somebody with attached a picture of 4 MB, my first reaction is to delete the message.
If you are now deleting some pictures to create more space in the server you will only delay a bit the problem. But soon it will be necessary to migrate to a more powerful platform, with increasing costs.
I feel myself more comfortable on Forums that require subscription, and open only to registered members. Better for whom manage the Forum, better for the users.
Anyway, back to the matter of pictures. Why not impose a limit of 800 – 1000 pixels and no more than 100 kB?
If there were no resriction currently, I could upload a picture of 4 Mb, 1000 pixels and the same picture resized to the same number of pixels but weighing only 60 kB, i.e. 70 times lighter, and will dare if somebody could see the difference, of course as it is on the screen, with no magnification.
Regards,
Giovanni
That sounds sensible, Giovanni. Is it possible to have an automatic resizer on the site that would do that? Sorry if that is an expensive suggestion; I genuinely haven't a clue. 😊
Thanks for the update, Peter.
