Off to an estate sale this morning. Never know. Here are a few pics of what I'm previewing. Pictures were horrible, so I'm seeing what you're seeing. I will let you know how it goes. JT
Hi Jamie,
Nice Japanese jubako in the 2nd pic. I guess “jubako” is technically a term for the lacquer variety stacking boxes, but I just call them all jubako. I am surprised they didn’t “line up” the tiers in the correct order and orientation for the picture. If you are interested in it, I would put $50 as the upper limit.
Todd
take it with a grain of salt
Did not get the Japanese jubako. It was damaged and over priced. I did manage to find some good buys.
I paid 15 USD for the powder blue jar, the wood carving was 25 USD, the two blue and white plates were 20 USD for the pair, The brass and marble 19th C. calandelambra was 45 USD, and the lacquered box was 10 USD (hinges are removed) for a grand total of 115 USD. The powder blue pot was definitely the best buy. It is already selling for more than I paid for the entire haul. Not a bad day all in all. JT
Chinese Powder Blue Porcelain Lidded Jar 18th/ 19th C Kangxi Marked Qing Dynasty | eBay
What a nice haul! I like the rug they are all on, is that yours?
The export blue and white plates are nice, one seems to have more kiln grit than the other. You did well. Sharon
I was pleased. Had to travel 100 miles to the estate and you never know what to expect as far as prices go. It is evident that the people handleing the tag sale had no idea what they were pricing. Most of the newer stuff was over priced and the older things were under priced, some by alot. It's a gamble everytime, but I love the adventure. And, if I can make a few extra dollars, its all good. The rug is mine. It is a modern Kazak from Afghanistan, vegetable dyed wool on what I believe is a synthetic pile. Nothing great but a nice display. Thanks for the comment Julia. Sincerely, JT
Can we get some better pictures of jar . Inside maybe profile of it on a table. Looks 19th century
Thanks Brian, I listed it immediately on eBay. I only paid 15 buck for the darn thing. CRAZY! It was kind of funny. The jar had a price of 15 USD and a sticker label that said "as is". 😊 I wanted to buy a 1/2 roll of shrink wrap that was in the garage and I ask how much they wanted for it and she said 10 dollars. My goodness an antique piece of Chinese porcelain for 15 dollars and the partial roll of shrink wrap was 10. It tickled me to death> 🤣
I, also thougt the pot was 19th C., but after cleaning and evaluation, it sure looks 18th C. to me. The footrim is more consistent with 18th C. examples. The damage really isn't that bad. There are no hairlines or fractures extending from the horseshoe break on mouth rim. Whatever knocked it made a clean break. A good restoration would make it look great. I expect it will bring 5 or 6 hundred on 10 day auction.
Chinese Powder Blue Porcelain Lidded Jar 18th/ 19th C Kangxi Marked Qing Dynasty | eBay
Hi Jamie,
The jar is lovely! Congratulations! I like the plates, too!
I would describe the color as cobalt or dark blue; I think "powder blue" refers to light blue. (Please forgive the persnicketyness!)

Regards,
Steve
@steve It is an industry standard kind of thing I think, regardless of how technically accurate the description is, such as with this and many other examples that can be seen all over: https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2020/important-chinese-art/a-powder-blue-ground-gilt-decorated-rouleau-vase.
@loveli4236 That blue jar is fantastic. I also think it could be 18th C but I would love to hear others thoughts who have more knowledge.
Yea John, When I purchased it, I certainly thought 19th C. for sure. Then after cleaning the footrim, I became uncertain. It looks like an 18th C. trim. However, the paste is not as white as I would like to see, but a good deal of iron oxide came out during firing, so?? Also, the paste has been curring for quite awile. Aging looks older than 100 years. Probably, best to error on the side of causion and date as an early 19th C. example. Market will determine whether or not they believe it is. JT
@loveli4236 Here's some comps. They are less curvy than your and the glaze ends more neatly. Thedecoration also seems more fluid. These aspects now lead me to think yours could be a 19th C version. https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2021/chinese-export-porcelain/a-pair-of-gilt-decorated-powder-blue-vases-qing
Good points John. At any rate, I think we can be safe dating it between 1780-1850. The whiteness of the paste along with the trimming style of the footrim will not allow me to date after Tiaping Rebellion. We will see what it brings. I can't complain for 15 dollars right. JT
