Found this today £ 30 pound English I no its ivory for sure but dont no the mark the seller thought it was bone

It is really nicely done, the proportions are good, details not bad - hands, the trickiest part for any artist are done well in this case, the head and facial expression - also good, i like the monkey and that little tree as well...
Popular motif.
The only thing that raises the question here is the age followed by concern regarding the material of course. If it's ivory and it looks like ivory to me, then it better be old.
I had a lot of ivory items in my hands and I think it is really tough some times to judge, can't really say much about the age without feeling it. It looks good. Maybe a bit too white.
Could be late Meiji, circa 1900. If yes, then 30 quid was a bargain.

How do you no it ivory did you do a hot pin test on this piece
It look bone from the pictures but it in your hands it easier
to tell what it is up close than it is from picture. John
The carving itself is pretty good. There are numerous species of ivory the most common being from elephant.
Genuine ivory will have shreger angles (crosshatch grain/ fine circular lines which is the characteristics of elephant ivory).
Grain will look different from species to species, but all genuine ivory will have a natural grain versus bone which will have grooves and or pits (brown or black pores) but has no cross-hatched lines.
From a financial point, I concur with Adrian sentiments.

The fisherman is not that good as the guy with monkey. Compare the hands, feet, etc...
Is that the same photo of the base?
The figures could be younger than I thought. If that's ivory then I wouldn't post that outside UK.

Like I said, the quality of your first figure - man with monkey is good, it is nicely done.
But unfortunately the fisherman is just not authentic - the detail is very poor and it also puts in question its age.
