So many interesting export ware topics today. I decided to add to the mix and maybe get a question answered by some of the experts. I was looking at the recent Bidamount newsletter and came across this eBay listing.

The reason this listing interests me is that the pattern of the charger is similar to a pair of chargers displayed on my sideboard. My chargers are 14” in diameter while the dish listed in eBay is about 15 1/3” in diameter.
There is some variation in the design between my two chargers. This seems to be an 18th century stock pattern. My charger on the left most closely resembles the bigger dish listed on eBay.
My question is does anyone know the name of this pattern and has anyone seen any information in the reference works regarding the type of design? My pair actually were sourced off EBay from an English dealer years ago. If someone gets that huge charger for under £375, it will be a steal!
I wish I knew, Bill, but underglaze blue export is definitely my weak point. I hope others will chime in. I checked through some of my books with underglaze blue export sections, and it's not discussed in them, but I will keep an eye out.
I've never seen that border before, but it is especially interesting. They look great displayed with that beautiful sideboard. What a wonderful display. Could you tell us about the sideboard too?
I am always happy to talk about American furniture. My sideboard is Boston made around 1810 or so, with a attribution to the cabinet maker, John Seymour. Sorry about the washed out photo, the afternoon sun was shining directly through the window. Here is a partial photo of the piece from my dealer’s website.
There is another sideboard by Seymour at the Boston MFA that has the same carved oval leaf detail in it’s design as mine. Their sideboard is of course a masterpiece.
The carving on both pieces is attributed to the English immigrant carver, Thomas Wrightman.
Thank you for the photos. They're both stunning. I'm hoping to learn more about early American furniture and perhaps collect alongside my export interest if it works out in the distant future. I have much to read up on John Seymour. Do you have any recommendations on books for Boston furniture? That is a big charger, would look good amongst your other two. I don't know the name of the pattern, but I have bought from that dealer before: it was also an item from Peter's watch list.

Hi William, I hope you can get the charger as an addition to the plates. The pattern is unusual and I don’t think it was made for the Western market. The use of empty space has a Japanese feeling. Another possibility is 18th century bleu de hue though I couldn’t find an example.

@william Is that called flame mahogany on your sideboard? It is beautiful. The slightly larger charger would center nicely between your other two, as Peter says, "leave a bid." Thanks for the tip on the Leigh Keno videos.
