We all know how one thing leads to another when researching on the Internet, well I came across this today when sourcing some jewellery wires. It is quite interesting, so I thought I would share it.

This is interesting, here is an example of two from my add a bead necklace, that was popular in the eighties, it falls within the last forty years category. These were sold in jewelry stores but the ones you could buy in bead shops for jewelry making were not smooth and had crinkled wire that was not flat with the surface, like the ones attached to modern hangings with tassles on the corners. Nice article but some of the information is not totally correct. The “Made in” requirements for China and Nippon was 1914 and for Japan 1921.
So the gist of the article is that they continued to produce and mark the same way and just slapped a paper label on it, which is often gone, so just because it is marked only China, it is not possible to say it was made before a certain date. It boggles the mind, Nicholas Chow and Peter mentioning fakes are getting scary good and everything is questionable, no hard and fast rules for dating legitimate items. I have a headache. Sharon
I don't say I agree with it all and these are just someone's observations, and we all have our own ideas anyway, but I found it interesting nonetheless and it may be useful for someone.
So was the author saying the clouds are a modern thing?
@lotusblack I think the way the clouds were done changed over time, so depending on how they are depicted it can hint at an age. I saw a description posted somewhere once that shared the details but not sure if it was here or somewhere else. Maybe someone will find it and post it. One of the things I recall is that the less curly the interior part of the clouds are the newer it is generally speaking.

I was looking at an early piece at a Christies sale and the clouds were done differently.
Nice topic Julia. May I get your thoughts and opinion on this set of lamps. I think they are Japanese, but not 100% sure. My opinion is early 20th C., but again I'm unsure. Sincerely JT
