I saw this jar for sale.
it is very large 31 cm high.
could it be ming?

Not my area at all, either, but I have just learnt these are called windswept jars, and I was surprised that the decoration isn't as fanciful as it first appeared to my novice eyes, although maybe stiffer than it ought to be?
I am also inclined to think it is a copy; the size is probably ok but I too find that base odd - what would cause the stains around the pinpricks?
Looking forward to hearing what Stuart says.

Concur with Mark @imperialfinegems and Julia @julia - this is a modern copy of known designs seen on late 15th/early 16th guans ...
Painting style is far to placed/stereotyped, detailing within motifs/overall composition badly drawn, look at the central tree trunk sections/branches/pine needles or shoulder cloud motif, and footrim trimming/interior base pitting are all wrong ...
I will post some images for comparison tomorrow ...
May I ask what the saler is asking for this piece? ...

A real Ming jar, undamaged and in that size would never be offered for €1300. The Christies jar sold for $68.000. Wouldn’t the seller have offered his jar for a similar amount if he was convinced of its authenticity?

I wouldn’t even think about buying any Ming porcelain online I am seeing a thousand a week online good ones and bad ones. The only way I would buy online is if it’s being offered by a reputable dealer these items need to be handled the copiers are getting better with technology as a decor piece it’s a $500 pot so this dealer is making $800 on a buyers inexperience . Birgit is right if it was real it would be in a major auction the seller is baiting if it’s to good to be true it probably is fake.

Authentic examples, depending on painting quality/condition, are usually estimated somewhere between USD$30-50,000/$40-60,000 when they come up for auction. A good, reliable, and known dealer would probably be asking closer to USD$80-100,000 ...
