Hello All, I would like to get some opinions on this jar before I list it. I think it is early 20th C. Excellent detail. Any guesses on what it will bring would be entertaining. I'm afraid the old restoration at the mouth rim will hold it back some.

I agree with Birgit that it's mid-twentieth century or later. The blue slightly mauve ground is unusual for the Qing period. It is very pretty, but I would not buy anything with that degree of damage/restoration. I'm not good at pricing but I think it might bring 200 USD at auction.

The rendering of the bird is quite comical and wonderful! The pale blue ground and pastel colors suggest Daoguang period as it was quite popular to copy the delicate pastel colors of the Yongzheng.
However, the brocade boarder around the mouth and empty double blue rings are Kangxi revival style.
This mix of motifs appears to be done by a skilled artist, but this kind of exprimentation would likely only have happened in the late Qing, so I think mid to late 19th. By the Republic period, the thick pastel enamels were not used, so I kindly disagree with my peers.
It's a fun piece that our Chinese friends will likely want to beat you down on your price over the broken mouth, but I'd stick to my guns on a price of $500-600 if you plan to sell - maybe ask for $850 so your buyer feels good about beating you down to $500, and still make a good sale! 😇
Pretty piece, with very fine detail. The blue ground looks mid-late 20th century to me as well.
Clearly a Chinese pattern, but something about the composition feels Japanese. I'm tempted to split the difference and go with Taiwan.

I would like to see an example of a similar mid to late 20th c. jar given that the concensus is that this jar is 'like' in style.
Here is a very similar jar sold by Christie's as 19th c. Chinese.

What do you think of the gold outlining on the branches on Jamie's jar? I'd thought that odd for Qing famille rose, but maybe it isn't.

@craig 🙏🏻 Its's all good in the persuit of knowledge.
The gilt lines remind me of how mirror black and blue vases were decorated in the 19th c., but the artist appears to have had a real desire to innovate with multiple glaze techniques. As beautiful as it is, it seems it was just too over the top.
Many thanks! It is a learning experience. The Christie's vases are truly lovely and make the case that Jamie's vase is 19th century. I had never seen a pale blue ground on vases from that period.
