This is such a nice plate (18th c I think?) but is quite badly damaged as it seems to be held together by those horrible hanging pads. I might be tempted to bid if I thought I could easily remove them and fix the plate. Has anyone successfully removed these pads before?

I haven’t personally tried to remove them, but I do know that they can come loose in a warm room, which is why I never use them to hang plates!
I’d have expected that a good soak in water and they’d come off? Even if had to leave the plate to soak for a week?
WD40 or acetate might do the trick too?

Oh my goodness! I have an 18th c creamware plate hanging with one of them - it came with it so I decided to make use of it thinking they were permanent! ? I will take it down.

This is nice , very much to western taste , and looks good for qianlong, quite unusual to see a rabbit on these export plates (I think) ;
it's a very good size, the crack is a shame but not very visible or evident . I see they have covered the crack on the reverse with sticky paper so you might wonder whether the crack is stable or not ?

I certainly am! It looked quite alarming when I turned it over and I don't think I will be trying to pull those pads off - if I buy it.
Only one hairline extends across the rim, and that in itself doesn't look too bad, but I am concerned as to what those sticky things are hiding. It is quite an impressive plate and I like the rabbit, but I will see how the bidding goes.

Best to use to soak of anything or clean anything is a bath of Biotex. Cheap, easy and save.

Yes, I did. This plate is still available, I could get it for £55 (costs incl) but in the state it is in, I am not sure it is worth that? It may appear in the next auction at a reduced price if no one goes for it.
What I did buy were the two Tek Sing plates. I haven't decided whether to sell them on, or keep them for the moment, I am just enjoying having a piece of history!
I also rather spontaneously (not really a good idea to do that!) picked up some Japanese items in a job lot, I may post one up a couple later as I think one is Chinese and the other has extensive use of an extraordinarily horrible colour!
How did you get on?
I think £55 (all inc.) is ok for such a large plate, but with the damage you may not see a return when you come to sell - for ref I bought a very similar plate several years ago , slightly smaller and porcelain had a blueish cast, small chips to the reverse. I paid £130 in an antique centre in england - finally sold it here in china , last month for the equivalent of about £100.
not a great result but I was happy to get some money out of it in the end . These export patterns are not valued in china so much.

If the plate is to buy and re sell then you will never make a profit if you buy at £55. Also it is damaged. Sadly plates like this can sell on ebay for less than £10.
At my auction I did terrible, and I did some of the bidding online and this proved to be a huge mistake. I got a picture i thought was huge that was only a few inches big :(. Also when id di get there the quality of some of the items that i could have bid on was much better than what it appeared online.
Depending on what your bidding then you have to attend the auction. Especially for furniture and Pictures. Porcelain not so much as you can usually deduce what you need to know.
I ended up buying lots of framed pictures for 5 euro. I got this silk dragon for 40 euro. Which is about it's value. It was framed Pre 1989 that is all i know so far. Best Guess is 1940's tourist fare.
These sold for £120 so you can see i am not good at buying stuff.
Don’t beat yourself up SD, auctions are a law unto themselves. The only time I get what I want is when I take a wad of cash and go in hard on the items I want. The danger then is that you pay more than you want to pay, which is as gutting as not winning sometimes.
Ive lost count of the auctions I’ve attended for the whole day and come away with nothing. That is very frustrating.
The moon flasks do look good though! Bargain price too!
