@julia amazingly similar Julia, and thank you so much for bringing it to our attention! Peter had this listed as part of his weekly eBay recommendations, and I wonder if he perhaps erred in posting a plate that is not quite what the seller claims it to be?
@greeno107 Samson is, 🤔shall we politely say, not my favorite, and I and would hope, by now, never to be falsely lured into buying one of their items. Thank you for stating your opinion! It seems like a bit of a mystery here, with experienced members offering differing opinions.
I really don't know. Peter is very reliable. My own personal doubts which were based on the rather odd juxtaposition of styles have been laid to rest by seeing the other one and learning about the pattern. It could well be a copy, but I have not had a chance to pursue this since finding it this morning.
In fact just a warning to all who sell on eBay, I nearly got caught by a very credible phishing email. I hope, I have got away with it, but checking it all out took up several hours.
I do think it is probably Kangxi, I just don't think it is a very harmonious design for my taste. I would have preferred just the straight famille Verte approach. But perhaps it is more unusual and was a good buy. The fact that we are so mixed opinions about it here could also mean fewer buyers competed for it hence a lower sale price.
I just saw where Peter mentions this plate in his new weekly video. He seems to think it went for just about what it should have. Also, he made it sound like it was a fairly typical style for Kangxi work, so there you have it.
I think Peter is very unlikely to be wrong on this. It is so similar to the Fournery example. It wonder what he is selling it for? I found the article interesting, especially as pretty much answered the question I asked earlier.
I don't have a store on ebay, Charlotte. I just put things on there now and again. I buy more often than I sell. 😊

😂 Actually, yes I do. I was going to post a link to a good online book/ article about Rose Mandarin etc but I am not sure anyone was interested. Or no one saw my post, I was a bit late responding.

@julia thanks so much Julia! I’m interested in both the pieces you might have, and the book. I want to add that, as you already know, but to anyone who does not, after about the 1890’s, or maybe even before, Rose Mandarin rapidly deteriorates in quality. For me it becomes questionable after about 1870. IMO, some of the early RM and Rose Canton can rival certain imperial porcelain in exquisite detail and beauty.
