In all fairness the first set of pictures were not adequate for a proper appraisal.

Well done. I agree their is a market for any kind of style, vintage or antique.
Apologies for going way off topic but I recently purchased a Brass peacock fire fan for example. These were mainly made in 1930 -1950 and you could buy one in a thrift store for about $15 dollars some years ago, however sometime in the last 10 years these have started to sell like hotcakes. I paid triple for this but can sell it for amost triple that again should I wish to.
I am guessing there are many of these around and it is not like they break easily or get thrown out as they are highly decorative. Their appeal is is that they fold up into a very compact and decorative stand which is an important underlying present day trend for portable compact items. There is not advantage to holding such an item when it is trending so hard at the moment as there is a decent supply out there.
@short-dong I have collections on many different areas. I have a passion for all treasures. I guess it’s a pickers life. I will buy Antique books from thrift stores and look the entire book. It’s pretty easy to make money in picking. But you have to put in the work it’s not easy squeezing in 100 plus shops a month. I remember to this day finding my first original Picasso lithograph in a goodwill in Colorado for $3 . I have had several of these fans but none recently.
We should get together and start a website called Pickers' Life. JT
@loveli4236 Count me in! I think it should be a blog radio show type of deal where we tell success/horror stories about collecting. It'd be great!
Your on to something. You tube is getting great hits for quality information sites that are entertaining and informative. I've been mulling over the idea for awhile. JT
Got to be careful let the world know our trade secrets and everyone will be hunting in our grounds. Lol I don’t want no claim jumpers
@lotusblack We can keep locations generic: "one time at this east coast thrift store..." etc.
@johnshoe Yeah, I was thinking this is a great idea. A mini documentary on the semi professional world of Antique trading, buying, collecting and selling. The behind the scenes of Ebay and Catawiki sellers, the problems etc. Only problem is traveling all over the place with a camera. I guess online interviews making up the story using clever editing but the main act would have to be shaped around some people where you can travel about with them recording them.
@short-dong A while back I think some of us were talking about making a documentary about going on great treasure hunts. Maybe naming it "Searching for Kangxi" or something like that. See if we can go find a million dollar vase. It'd be fun. Especially if we can get Giovanni and Greeno to both come and argue about everything. It could be quite entertaining.
Doing on location shoots isn't very hard. I may shoot my next estate sale and see how it turns out. I just don't know about being distracted when I'm trying to get in, grab and quickly assess the merchandise available. Thrift store shopping would be much easier, but the chances of finding a genuine Asian articles is much less. Auction previews could also be a good venue for education and teaching videos, along with museum walk throughs. Has anyone seen David Harper do his gig? I'm think something like that with a flare of entertainment would do well. JT

Storage wars...and every other show all fake finding the treasures they find. The lockers are set up with a chosen high value item for the buyer to find. Unfortunaetly it is very hard to have a camera crew and director on standby in case someone finds something worthwhile 🙂
However, that does not preclude real auctions where one could check catalogues and pre selec and pr plan which items are likley to be important and focus on the one that falls into the budget and win it to make for good tv. In that way at least it is real, so perhaps merging the world of auction houses with thrift store/ebay and catwiki.
Getting a few pickers to comb antique malls to find treasure would probably be pretty satisfying for most viewers.
On a completely different scenario I was viewing the latest results ftom Heritage Auction house in Texas with respect to their Hollywood sale.
Of particular interest to myself was the extradition collection of over 40 signed letters mostly from Bob Baker to Bruce Lee.
Robert was a friend and confidante of Bruce. Readers unfamiliar with him may recall he played the Russian fighter in 'fist of fury'.
Anyway the collection was apparently found at a flea market. On average the letters fetched between about $5500 and 13,000. Nice find!
Also in the auction was a pair of nunchucks apparantly certified by Taky Kimura and used by Bruce Lee. They sold for $46,000.
I remember seeing them a few years back and thought they were fake. There are a lot of them on the market atm!
I have a pair of leather skipping ropes also certified by Taky Kimura going for auction in Juliens in November. I bought them on eBay about five years ago from a distressed seller in the UK for next to nothing compared to what they are worth currently. The market for memorabilia is really hot atm.
Mark
This hand written letter sold for about $12,000

The art of calligraphy - and for the ancient Chinese it certainly was an art - aimed to demonstrate superior control and skill using brush and ink.
