One of our subscribers sent me some info and links regarding a vase being offered by Joanies.
This is the eMail I received.
Hello Peter,
Happy New Year.
Just thought that the following might interest you.
A Chinese famille rose porcelain vase signed – with fake Wang Qi signature & seal
Sold twice last fall with NO fake paper labels om base:
Close comparison shows that the very same vase was then sold with added labels as part of a lot by Pook & Pook in December:
https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/79107725_seven-chinese-and-japanese-porcelain-vases
Now for sale by joanies_house_of_treasures:
Perhaps you could do something about it.
Best regards,

It would appear the vase has sprouted labels...
Happy New Year, Peter
Peter
This vase purported to be by famous Republican period Master Wang Qi (eight friends of zushan. B. 1884-1937) is an obvious fake. It's a........ 🍋
The calligraphy has been simplified and resembles nothing like the masters hand!
Shall be interesting to see what this abomination actually sells for. 🤔 I note from the listing that JHT have not declared the artist or other and left it to the buyer to decide.
It is worth noting that works by this master are very highly sought after and command hefty prices.
Bonhams very recently had a very large plaque attributed to, but bearing only one seal. Very nicely executed but probably an attribution by one of his students and sold moderately in my opinion. Bonhams were of the opinion it was by his hand etc.
I see a lot of supposed works by Master Wang Qi. Most like said vase are terrible copies. Some are very high quality copies but with flawed calligraphy.
Still looking for a genuine one at a reasonable price. 🤣
Mark
I'm curious where and when it sprouted those old "looking" labels on the bottom, they weren't there a few month ago...but are now.
Best Peter
Peter
So prior to listing with auction house via liveauctions said vase had no labels and then........Amazing new found provenance/other!
So according to the writer informing Peter that the vase was offered two times via ebay, one must assume that the first time around it failed to get paid for. So the second time around at a massive discount did the vase get paid for or other. Did the seller or the new buyer subsequently attach fake labels. It is interesting that the original seller and the auction are both local. I don't know the answer.
Unfortunately I am unable to view the scroll-down listing (for this and other listing) provided by JHT for whatever reason. 🤔
It would therefore be fair to suggest that JHT purchased said vases from nominated auction house with said added labels at an attractive price imo and then subsequently to re-offer said vase under the guise of being part of some important collection/other.
Sadly, JHT is well-known for this type of activity.
I have over the last few years purchased a number of things from JHT (eBay and privately) in the past and I must say I have been very satisfied with all my purchases for the most part. However, I take what they say regarding provenance with a grain of salt.
Nicely spotted by whoever alerted Peter. 😁
Mark
Well done guys , I have heard of this seller Joanies house of horrors but never checked them out , will go and do that now .
Carl
Dear Mark,
If you are not able to see the items on sale by JHT, it must be for the same reason that I too can’t do tha, i.e. she/he doesn’t ship to Italy, most probably then also Australia.
Why she/he doesn’t ship to other Countries? I suspect that she/he had some problem with people questioning some of her/his items.
That of fake labels is not new. She/he bought a lot of items from the estate of Michael Vermeer, re-selling them on eBay, but also applying stickers from that collection to other items that was surely not belonging from there.
This is not a correct attitude, but IMO it is much worst to purposely sell fake items as she/he do sometimes.
Regards,
Giovanni
Not really sure Giovanni. Last time I bought an item from them was about one year ago.
It was a very large and heavy, professionally framed work (simulation of bamboo) by well-known Chinese contemporary artist Jin Weihong b. 1963 (lounging figures) for a relatively low-price given the difficulty JHT had in shipping it to Australia. From memory the quote was $120. But in reality due to size/packing and weight. It exceeded $750. They honored the deal despite losing out in the end, in my estimate . 😁
I will say JHT packing is really superb and professional.
Prior to that I bought both on eBay and privately about 13 large and other, rich green nephrite jade plaques featuring among other things dragons.
One day, I plan on putting some in a custom made frame with special LED lighting to display from a wall or other. Currently like many other things are collecting dust stacked up against a wall. 🤣

Try searching Ebay.ca and search for Joanies or better yet thins link should work.
Thank you Ron.
I am able to view the said listings but not the full description therein. It starts and then goes blank.
Strange though it only appears to involve asian art. All other including the Jaeger-LeCoultre atmos clock I just looked at all show full pictures and descriptions etc.
I dont know what the problem is and have sent an email to JHT seeking clarification etc. Very odd. 😕

I have to admit the Meissen Watteau plates they offer are a real bargain. Usually they sell for 200-300 Euro for a single plate. However I don’t like the description („I believe are antique“) that makes people think the plates could be really old. They are modern.
Birgit
Mark, I also found some of the pages load the text and a picture or two very fast but the remaining pictures take a couple of seconds to load, but they do load.
