@xin_fawis

Hello Xin

I have seen your Jin Cizhou-type bowl which you are offering for sale on Bidamount Live and just wanted to say how nice it is.

https://bidamountlive.com/product/a-chinese-famille-verte-porcelain-bowl-qing-dynasty-guangxu-mark-and-of-the-period-copy/

I am not sure if you have noticed that the webpage address is for a guangxu period bowl, so this may not be helpful to you if buyers are searching online for a Jin Cizhou-type bowl.

I have recently been lucky enough to purchase a similar shape Jin Cizhou-type bowl with three russet streaks and hare's fur glaze and these bold glazes really are quite eye catching in a collection, so I hope that you do well with yours. These particular ceramics are covered quite well in Robert D Mowry's book, 'Hare's Fur, Tortoiseshell, and Partridge Feathers'.

Below are some photographs of my bowl.

Nice. But where in the listing is it specified to be Cizhou-type? I see the description is 'Henan russet-splashed'.

@avatar

Sorry that I didn't put the correct description of Xin's listing, my description is based on how Robert D Mowry describes these Jin dynasty ceramics and I would not wish to disagree with his expertise.

Kind regards,

Jeremy

I see. BTW there is a local dealer here that has some Song/Jin russet pieces for sale that I'm thinking of buying. They are certainly affordable but sold without guarentee of being authentic. As far as I can tell they are most likely Cizhou-type but they could also possibly be Yaozhou.

Also very nice bowl that you have, Jeremy. Have you seen this one at Sotheby's?

Thank you for pointing this out to me, I see that they do not mention Cizhou-type or Henan.

Kind regards,

Jeremy

@jeremy

Thank you for this information. The Bidamountlive causes this problem if I duplicate the product. I don't know how to change the address manually. I have to create a new product to avoid this problem. Now it's updated. 😀

Your bowl is also a Henan Cizhou-type bowl, very beautiful. I like it!

@xin_fawis I have been admiring your Guangxu bowl

It is suggested as Imperial kiln is this correct? A rare chance to own such piece even restored.

@jeremy

I was following a single owner auction yesterday that concentrated mainly on early ceramics and there were some black glazed Song/Jin bowls in the sale.  Depending on condition, they sold between $500 to $2000 except for one particular bowl.

I couldn’t figure out why this chipped bowl with an estimate of $200-$300 sold for thirty times it’s high estimate.  My interest was peaked because here are some pictures of a similar bowl in my collection that was purchased at least twenty years ago.

Hi Brian,

Yes, it’s indeed a imperial piece. I got it from a Dutch collection. A similar piece from the Daoguang period was sold years ago in China.

@william

Yours is also a Henan bowl. Very nice. This kind of bowl with white glazed rim imitates black glazed bowl with silver rim, very popular in the Song and Jin periods. The one on the auction has a special shape which is rare. I guess that’s why.

@xin_fawis

The dimensions of both bowls are practically the same.  There is a subtle difference in shape that to my eye is almost unnoticeable.  I wonder if the $9000 bowl is an example from a rarely found kiln location?

@william For you they are the same. Not for me. The bowl from the auction has the shape of monk bowl which is a so called religious object. And it belongs to Ganzhou kiln, not Henan. I think you may find similar things at Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
