I have this little late 19th century early 20th Century Japanese Pot with faces on the side and was wondering if anyone is able to tell me what the face are? Lion? Foo Dog? I can’t find a match on the internet.

In my opinion it is not 19th century, I would be looking at mid 20th century to Modern. You also have the country of origin on the base. I don't actually know how old it is, but based on the backmark I would say around 1960's.

The reason I felt it might be the age it is, is because the markings on the bottom are identical to the first one pictured on this sight.

Gotheborg has your mark at 1890 to 1920 the faces don’t look like foo lions
to me. The company close in 1939 1054. Awaji ware, with Sanpei flag and stamped country of origin JAPAN, which occurred between 1890 and 1922.

1890-1922 seems right, as you’ve already concluded. I can’t figure out what the image is either, not even sure its a face. I like the texture and color of the jar, nice piece.

Good research Robinan. I was not aware of what the age of the jar actually was but was basing my opinion based solely on the fact of the backmark being stamped Japan. Japan did use earlier marks with made in Japan, such as Noritake Made in Japan used in and registered in the UK in 1908. So it is not uncommon for continental or UK to have made in Japan before the US Customs act of 1921 so maybe the jardiniere was meant for continental or Uk. I was assuming this was an item from the USA and usually for USA you would see a Nippon mark prior to the 1920's and 1930's.
I ruled out 19th century therefore based on the McKinley act 1890 and then ruled out early 20th Century based on the fact Japan used Nippon for USA exports. Hence i was placing it in the mid 20th century.
I suppose if it was exported to europe then it could be perfectly reasonable to have Japan stamped on it. This was very interesting for me because i think Awaji may have used Japan for all it's exports including USA and So it is been great to learn more about dating Japanese products based on their backmark...sorry I never addressed your question about the decoration and what it is based on.
I found this article but i am not sure it is relevant to your pot as yours pre-dates 1922 and hence the start of the Art Deco movement becoming prominent in 1925.
The Decoration looks like 'Alice the Goon' in Popeye the Sailor Man. Awaji is an Island in Japan and Alice the Goon was from Goon Island in the Popeye Cartoon and both have a good tradition of Sea and martitime history. I never liked Alice the goon when i was Kid, so naturally I do not find this Jardinere very appealing, but the handle I wonder could it be classed Art Noveau. It does have a organic and natural structure but there is not a distinct 2 tone glaze. If not Art Noveau then what style would the handle date to?
