I am curious if any of you have knowledge of or possible book recommendations, etc, that address painters of 18th c and earlier porcelain pieces? I am curious if any we'll known painters of paper/silk were known to also have applied their skills upon porcelain, but perhaps as a side gig for commissioned pieces, so leaving such work to go unsigned? It is known that Castiglione did work with enamels, but what about the Chinese painters, and do we even know which porcelain pieces Castiglione worked on? I am wondering if these attributions are all lost or never really existed at all, as the Imperial work was always about the Emperor and not the artist. Except, we do know of works on paper/silk by Castiglione, so this knowledge was kept and shared, but what of the porcelain works? Were records even kept of the Imperial enamel painters? John
As far as I know artist often but not always diverted their hands to different materials.
Yes their are meticulous record's kept in the imperial palace of all works commissioned, the artist and the amount produced.
But sorry I don't know how how it access those records.

There is a new book 2023 published by the University of Washington Press, titled Porcelain For the Emperor, that according to the blurb has information from the palace archives on the painters, to what extent, I do not know. The best price they have on Abebooks is 64.00, but it is a relatively new book and it may go down in price on the after market. Hurray for PHd candidates, there are bound to be some in China as well to have written on the subject, of course, then it would need to be translated.
