Glad to see someone is eating 'heart healthy'! I had Chinese fried rice with two fried eggs.... I've always felt like I was going to have a short life, so I figure, might as well enjoy it!
April Fool's day has a very special meaning for our family.
While this story started as an April Fool's prank, but then took a very unexpected turn....
On April 1, 2017, my wife and I took our son (only child) and his girlfriend bird watching along the eastern seashore of Florida (Titusville). All of us enjoy the outdoors, and this area is particularly good for birding in the spring and fall.
After spending the morning together, having fun and taking turns making jokes/pranks, we all headed home (which was Jupiter FL at the time). Stopping for gas, my wife and I noticed that my son's girlfriend looked as if she had gained a little weight. It was no big deal to us, and we were actually please because she was quite literally a size zero, and our son had always been a rather big boned kid.
Jokingly, my wife and I wondered if she could be pregnant, and it motivated us to play a rather cruel prank on my son.
When we got home, I went into the kitchen to make dinner, and my wife, son, and his girlfriend went upstairs to change.
My wife called my son to our bedroom under the premise that she had something very important to tell him, had him sit on the bed, and told him that we (my wife and I) were expecting to have a baby in the fall... that she was pregnant.
My son, just 19 years old at the time, responded with disbelief, and yelled down to me asking, 'Dad! Is Mom lying to me?!?! Is she pregnant?!?!'
Understand that my son and I have a really close bond... I'm pretty sure I can say we don't have much in the way of secrets, and we certainly don't lie over serious matters to each other. But, it was April Fool's, so I played along.
I yelled up in my best fake angry voice, "Mai! (my wife's nickname is Mai) I told you not to tell him until I was there with you after dinner! Why'd you have to go and upset him?!?"
According to my wife, my son's face went white and an expression of horror and concern over took him, and as so as not to torture him further, she yelled, 'APRIL FOOLS', expecting to offer some relief to my devastated, only-child-syndrome son.
And while relieved, my son was pretty upset the rest of the day.
The following morning, my son came into our bedroom early in the morning to wake my wife and I because he had something important to tell us.
He sat on the edge of the bed, his face turned rather serious, he grasped for words, but it was very obvious what he was about to say....
My wife responded before the first word even left my son's mouth, 'Am I going to be a grandma???', which was followed by a lot of mutual crying of joy, fear, and relief from having kept it a secret for nearly a week. Yes, my son's girlfriend was pregnant.
So, ever since, you could say we make it a rule not to play any types of serious pranks, because what comes around, goes around!
Anyway, as young as my son and his now wife of 6 years were at the time, we stuck together as a family, and I can say without any hesitation that the greatest joy in my life has been to see my son, his wife, and my amazing granddaughter grow to be a successful and caring family.
For this reason, April Fool's Day carries a lot of meaning.
@greeno107 Your breakfast sounds delicious, when I finally got concerned about my heart and paid a visit the cardiologist, found out that I had in the past three heart attacks, guess that was not indigestion or heat stroke, pretty sure one of them was during a trial, I remember telling my learned opposition, who was a classmate in school, "don't worry, I have aspirin in my pillbox," she replied, "that's not funny." Luckily, I only needed a stint. Southern fried chicken is only a happy memory now. Do not put off seeing a cardiologist, as I did for years. Sharon
@greeno107 Criminal, Immigration and first year out family, oddly, criminal is so much more civil. 🤣
@sharonp That's good to know. Thank you for letting me know. My wife and I handled the entire process of immigration for her family from Peru... started as just her parents and 3 sibblings, but it took 14 years before their visa's were approved, and by then, they were all married with children.
So, we ended up sponsoring 12 visa's (her parents came much earlier than the rest)...they all stayed at my house for a year (some of them 2 years). A small miracle that I still have a full head of hair.
We still have one hanging issue... my son's wife is DACA. I think we'll need a lawyer for that .... I haven't found one, yet, who has successfully converted the DACA status to a green card. If you know of anyone in Florida, please let me know.
@greeno107 No, sorry I know of two classmates that practice in Florida but neither practice immigration.
