Hi All,
Like many of you, we sell a few items on eBay.
I am curious if many of you have had issues with non paying buyers?
My wife and I are generalist dealers who love asian antiques. It seems that it is Chinese items in particular that get bid up and left without payment. We have had some items recently and not expensive things - less than a couple hundred dollars, where the buyer just ghosts us. It is not breaking us, but it is really annoying. What are these people gaining from this?
Peter mentions it as well.
Does anyone have a good strategy for dealing with this nonsense?

Insist that buyer's have at least 10 or more feedback before placing bids.
Most if these ghosting bidder's are zero or one feedback.
Alternatively put them up for 'buy now or best offers '.
Its a big problem ATM with eBay.

I've had more negative experiences on ebay with Asian art than other categories. It's because of the extra perseveration that comes with authenticating, I think.
It's not just ebay. We've had issues with flakey buyers on other sites. The recommendation on requiring bidders to have a minimum number of positive feedback is a good one.
I deal with it often it’s frustrating most of mine are buyers that are international and don’t want to pay duties or shipping fees.
@imperialfinegems Is that something that you can actually create a setting for in ebay to filter people out or is it something you just state in the description and then have to check on to enforce manually?
i believe it's in the description and manually filtered. I see it a lot.

Thanks for the suggestions. It seems that eBay does not care - no surprise there.
We are trying the option of offering items to the next highest bidder. If that does not work or they choose not to accept, I figure to offer objects as a buy it now at about the selling price with the sad story of the non payer for those who may wonder why they are seeing it again. I like the idea of vetting the buyers however our current deadbeat had a positive review from Peter...
I will let you know how it works out.

@johnshoe The filter for buyers with zero or negative feedback is in your Ebay account settings. You can also eliminate single countries you don’t want to sell to and block buyers you had a bad experience with.
