Hi everyone,
Charlotte, one of our fellow members, is having trouble logging-in and has asked me to make a post on her behalf.
She has been trying to contact Peter, has tried 3 different ways, but is not getting any response. There is some issue with her monthly payments for Patreon that she needs to sort out. Peter knows her well and she knows he will sort it out immediately, if she could only get the message to him.
Is anyone else experiencing problems or does anyone have a suggestion as to how best to get Peter's attention, please?
She would appreciate any help you can give.
Thank you!
Julia et all,
In last week’s weekly YouTube video he did mention he was having some health issues. In time he should be recovering.
Wishing him the best,
George
Thanks, George. I will pass that on. I hope he will be fine and wish him well, too.
Peter used to be very reliable and replied in time to the identification requests.
But unfortunately this is apparently no longer the case.
I know he had some health issues and therefore he was not able to care of the inquiries.
No problem with that.
However he seems to be late replying in general now.
It already happend 2-3 times on urgent requests.
And I had written my current request on last Sunday because I wanted to wait until he is back from vacation.
The main purpose is an object which will be auctioned tomorrow at Bonhams. And I am still waiting for an answer.
I have watched the video on Friday where Peter said he had 300 open requests which had been written during his vacation.
Well if he answers them in chronological order it is not a surprise I have to wait for an eternity.
I do not understand why he did not shut down the program during his vacation.
Sure, no one wants to cut down the own income but if it hurts the service it would have been the better option.
Or maybe it would be a good idea to limit the possible number of daily requests so there will not be any delay in responding.
Anyway this is quite frustrating I must admit. I guess I will still bid on the object tomorrow.
But I can almost sense the outcome: I win the object and 1 hour later Peter sends me his message: 'This is the most brutal fake I have ever seen...luckily you missed it.' lol
I didn't realise the backlog was that long. It will undoubtedly take time to clear; I will warn Charlotte to be patient a little longer.
Have you tried the Patreon chat? I saw Peter replying there from time to time.
As a side note, I recently got a reply from Peter regarding one of my inquiries, and he noted that the backlog is huge (over 300 nos.) and it's going to take him some time to clear it off. I can see where the frustration comes from, but he's doing his best. I believe we should try to be patient and supportive, especially considering that he is still recovering from infection.
I think she may have tried the chat but I will mention it just in case she hasn't. Thanks for the tip, I didn't know there was a chat there. Do people post their pieces on there like on here? That may explain why this forum is so quiet.
Well I have won the lot and I am still waiting for the reply.
Do not get me wrong: It is cool to offer this kind of service. Even though opinions may differ and mistakes happen but this is probably quite common.
In his last video Peter advertised a blue and white brushpot sold by Joanies and dated it to the Transitional Period.
However a viewer wrote below that it is a fake and the damages appear to be done artificially.
On closer examination I think he may be right. (3 almost identical marks next to each other, most likely caused by the same tool - but still the pot sold for 7200)
And the price of the service is also very reasonable.
But if he receives more requests than he can handle Peter should consider 2 options:
1. Lower the number of requests.
2. Hire a few employees to assist him.
I do not mind waiting and patience is not an issue if if was a request about an object in my collection. Does not matter if I get an answer after 2 days or 2 weeks.
But if it is about objects of upcoming auctions it is different. A timely reply is essentiell.
I guess I can only hope now that Peter likes the lot I have purchased. lol
@sanguo He replied yesterday said he still has several pages of identifying objects to go. One short note you shouldn’t be purchasing objects at any great value without having the knowledge or some understanding first this lies solely on the buyer not the consultant.
Yes, he did. Well he has always replied so far. This is not the issue. (unlike the guy at Gotheborg who is a scammer in my eyes - but this is a different story)
As I mentioned earlier I am collecting a certain topic, not a special type of object.
This is the reason why I am searching for objects first which fit this subject and afterwards I try to figure out the quality of the item and if it is worth going after it.
But this also means I am collecting all types of different wares and therefore it is sometimes difficult to judge as I would need to become an expert for basically every category.
But still the knowledge increases with collecting and as long as I know my own collection I am fine with that.
It is quite funny though: I know more about the character of the object than the expert at Bonhams (who cleary misatributed the topic - good for me or else the price would probably have been out of my reach). But when it comes to dating and judging the quality the expert at Bonhams is far superior.
Yeah I know: Strange collecting behaviour. Hahaha
@julia Exactly explains why the activity has slowed and Charlotte confirmed in a previous post that there is a chat line on the Patreon subscription, which is probably a good idea for those in the business end of collecting, interacting with fellow sellers regarding suggested values.
P.S. I would not care about the business end of Patreon, but I am envious of the extra videos and other benefits. I just bought a book I wanted, so like Erasmus, "when I get a little money together I buy books and if any is left over, I buy food." Sharon
Gotheborg offers a similar service like Peter.
Several years ago I had bought an object at a local store and actually felt quite good about it.
But the more I examined the piece at home the more I had doubts that it was authentic.
Luckily I had the right to return the object for a limited period of time.
So I searched the net for comparable pieces and while I was not successful I noticed the service at Gotheborg. (this was way before Peter started his own service)
Since the object was not that cheap I thought 20 bucks would be a good investment to have a second opinion.
But then day after day passed without any reply and at some point I had to make a decision or I might have missed the deadline to return it. Finally I decided to return it and get my money back.
So there was no more need for a second opinion. I informed Gotheborg and asked to refund me the 20 bucks.
I am waiting until today...
To sum it up: No second opinion, no refund but a donation of 20 bucks.
Lesson learned and I was done with this site. (I assume there are harder lessons in life but still I was quite pissed)
Well one could argue I got at least an opinion in the end. lol
