I had not purchased anything for a long time, so I decided to combine two interests, Asian and jewelry, it is marked with the word Silver and China, safety clasp looks fifties/sixties and some of the jade looks modern trapezoidal cut, so I'm guessing mid-century. I'm waiting on its arrival, it was missing one stone, but I have plenty of loose stones, so I'll either replace the missing one with a pear shape natural Chinese turquoise rough or coral, or take it to my jeweler, who has worked on many pieces of jewelry for me over the years, but I'm hoping the piece I have will work. I'll post it when she's ready for her close up.
My venture into sales on consignment is working well enough that since the Tod's driver mocasins and Ralph Lauren loafers both sold, I took a pair of red Coach shoes (almost Valentine's Day) and a Dooney and Burke handbag that I never liked and still had the store label and an old Lennox clutch handbag from the sixties that still had the hangtag inside the purse, I carried it once to a homecoming dance and a brown velvet hat in its old round hatbox that the young clerks fell in love with, I called it my Audrey Hepburn hat, also an eighties Diane Von Furstenberg cotton crocheted sweater and an Anne Klein purse that I never used, I think from the late nineties. I have branched out to taking them other decorating items as well, I'm having fun and cleaning out the closets at the same time.
@julia I will and this shop had some old English furniture on consignment, I have always wanted a Pembrook style drop leaf side table. The finish on top was in rough shape, I'm sure it is probably a Victorian copy but it had what looked like mahogany venir on the little drawer front, it had come in with a barley twist leg card/pub table (had flared out corners of the top like card tables) from England that was definitely Victorian, it had not been priced yet and it will probably be gone before I get back there, which is usually the case when they finally get something you are interested in acquiring. It will inspire me to dig through more cupboards to acquire more store credit, my husband said, "why not just take the money," because, "I get an extra 10% if I take store credit."
P.S. My Mom always told me, "in this family, it is rude to return a present, you can give it away if you do not like it," so I always kept everything, even if it is not to my liking or gave it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, which I told to a dear friend who gifted me with the Dooney and Bourke handbag with the gift receipt still on the hangtag, if anyone buys it, I wonder if Macy's would take back an item several year's old. She also gifted me that Anne Klein bag several years ago, she said, "that's ridiculous," to my Mom's remark, so I know lots of my gifts to her were reurned. 🤣
Macy's return Christmas gift policy is 90 days at the most, so whoever buys it will not be returning it, as it has sat in my closet several years, "that might come in handy sometime, maybe not."
@julia Brooch arrived safely and I used clear glue to set the piece of turquoise because I not want to mess with the prongs as I might break them off (I have done that before). I took some more items to the consignment shop, they did take some items but remarked, "we are not an antique shop." I replied, "that's fine, I'm going to an antique shop next." I played picker and traded the stuff they did not want for a cloisonne box that will house my new brooch. I will be posting both, a busy day wheeling, dealing and clearing cupboards. 😀
Outside pictures taken this morning. Brooch 2.5"x 1.5". Safety clasp on brooch makes me think fifties/sixties but possibly before or after.
Box 3"x 1.5" measurement with little brass feet 1.75". Looks closest to the examples online dated circa 1900, the antique shop owner had 65.00 on it but gave it to me for sixty in exchange for depression era glass, which she will take to Round Rock for her booth next Month. The only depression era glass I kept were two footed bowls that belonged to my Great-Aunt (who I loved), Heisey glass, my Grandmother's green optic block sherbert/berry footed bowls with creamer and milk pitcher, Fostoria American pattern, Manhattan pattern (my favorite depression glass pattern and 2 clear vases for flower arrangements and one of the vases is in an Art Deco pattern, which appears to be my favorite patterns, because I also kept a pink depression glass lidded powder jar with artic scenes on the sides with two penguins on top of the lid, which I keep depression era jewelry in that, but as a child I loved to cover my face in Cody face powder when I invaded my Aunt's bedroom and seized her poofy powder puff, except her powder box was gold depression glass and had a deer for a finial instead of the two penguins, my little sister has that powder box. I was thrilled to find the cloisonne in exchange for some old depression era bowls with no family connection and a perfect fit for the jade (square on left, 2 trapezoidal shape and crescent moon shape), coral and turquoise (you will see the piece I added, which is vaguely pear shaped) and came from an old earring, lost the other earring, vaguely Tibet in style and I have a thirties/forties pair of surviving Tibet turquoise and coral earrings that I can wear with the brooch. I am very happy. I will appreciate your opinions. Thank you. Sharon
Hello Sharon
The box dates to 1910 to 1930 the brooch I’m not sure of but nice piece.but what I can remember my grandmother had apiece like this one in the 50s. She wore to church on Sunday JohnS.
@john-steward Thank you so very much and my piece will be going to church too, now that we can stop watching online and my husband can go back to choir. The piece of pear shape Chinese rough was too large but this one will work well enough with enough clear glue. It will be getting more on the backside today, just as someone else has done to the other stones. It was serendipity finding the box, a perfect fit for the brooch. Thank you for the dating, much appreciated. Sharon

The art of calligraphy - and for the ancient Chinese it certainly was an art - aimed to demonstrate superior control and skill using brush and ink.
