I am looking forward to members' experiences during Asia week, pretty quiet the last few days, so bound to be some good posts when folk get home.

J.J. Lally Collection sold by Christie's..... The results? All I can say at the moment is WOWWWWW!!!!!! 🤩 🤩 🤩
I'm still a bit short on time at the moment, so I'm sorry, but I'll have to post either later Friday (tomorrow) or Saturday.
Aside from the amazing results of some pieces, there are a few good insights I'd like to share on why the results are as they are.

So I didn't win this, but on the topic of Asia week...
 This is the first time that I have really thought of a photograph as a work of art. Fantastic buy:
Really clever, beautiful and smart. I really like it.
I ended up getting a couple things toward the end:
Two decent sized Chinese jade eggplants (not sure about dating).
A Meiji period Japanese lacquer fish/cowboy container with chipped whiskers.
@rahawkins Do you think they are altar offering pieces, the jade vegetables, not sure that they are eggplants, can't remember the British name for eggplant, something to Google. That is an interesting container, is it pottery? Happy for you, congratulations.
@sharonp they were sold to me as eggplants, but they could be zuccinis or something. There is some grime under the leaves, but they might be carved in an old manner (hard to say, but seem to be nice enough even if 20th century). They came from a "private collection" in Connecticut, so not a lot of provenance to go off of.
The lacquer was sold to me as a vase, but is more accurately described as a container. The cowboy is detachable, and there is a compartment inside. It is lacquered wood. The previous owner was born in the late 19th century, and was a military veteran. Presumably WW1. I think it was made as a decoration.
@rahawkins Eggplant in Britain is called aubergine for the purple color, thanks Google.
The stalk end looks like aubergines, but the shape of the vegetable is different. Maybe it is an Asian variety?
@rahawkins I think the Japanese man riding the fish is quite spectacular. Are you planning to keep it? By the way, it was interesting to read your comment about most photography not being art. I have always felt that way, but it's a very unpopular view around here. And I am astonished by how easily some are swayed into spending 6 figures on a photo. Ansel Adams? Maybe, but 5 figures only. Your photo is smashingly beautiful, and it looks like a painting.

@charlotte Don't forget Alfred Stieglitz or Ansel Adams in a junk shop, I wish.
