today I picked up a bowl. and it has lots of yellow tape residue. about 8 different places. I stopped counting. I have never seen this type of tape before.
it's yellow and has left this fiber looking material behind. I'm not sure who did the taping. and why so many places.
And in addition, there are 2 clear tapes that's still on. Not been removed yet. Anyone has some tricks on how to easily remove these? Thank you!
I've used olive or other such oil to remove sticker residue. Don't use much. Put a bit on a paper towel than cover the area that has the residue. Let it stand for a few minutes. Then rub it to get off the excess. Then wash off the oil.
You could also use peanut butter. It is used to get gum out of hair so should work for sticker residue.

I'd avoid using any harsh chemicals on porcelains. You could damage the surface and not realize it.
I agree on harsh chemicals, but acetone and methanol or denatured alcohol, should have zero effect of fired porcelain, though I suppose one should always test it on an inconspicuous area first. If there is a polymer based enamel, thought that would not be original to an old piece, then Acetone will certainly remove it. Also depending on what type of gilding has been applied to the piece, one should be careful with choosing an appropriate solvent, though the three I mentioned should not have an immediate effect if just dabbed on, they evaporate too quickly.
Agree with Jeremy. The body of a Qianlong bowl is well made and won’t be damaged by the chemicals he named. And you don’t have to remove any oil or grease afterwards.

I should note that one thing with home remedies, though in this case an oil or grease is not as big a deal, is that often they can actually damage pieces. I work with old master paintings and early furniture quite extensively, and I have come across many ruined pieces from home remedies that seem safe. One I often see is vinegar, that ultimately changes a patina or if not neutralized leads to further damage. The beauty of solvents in my opinion is if one reads the safety data sheet on them there is little variance in the results that are achieved.
@@nyccat Please show us the piece when you get it cleaned up, that scroll holder is interesting to me, because it appears to be pierced but they did not draw the scroll showing through the holes. It would have only been a line or two. Sharon

some initial result was good. I did a total submerge in water for 24 hours. added some dish soap. And also did some light scrape with my hands.
