So I need to get my stuff thinned down. To be truthful my wife is complaining about to much stuff. Where is a good starting place to sell. I have been told eBay is a nightmare. And suggestions? Should I just sell it all as one big lot or part it out?
Hi Brian,
Ahhh the dilemma..... 🙏😊
Personally I wouldn't sell or dispose of job lots. Individually!
Yes ebay can be a nightmare. If you don't want that then the only thing you can do is to offer said by private sale or with a auction. Of course the later is tricky with fees and the unpredictable market conditions.
Of course refining ones collection is always happening one way or another. Always upscale..... Not downscale is my motto. In other words dispose of the lower end works and keep the better ones. With allocated funds then buy something better and so forth. The cycle is never ending.
If space is a problem (and isn't it always unless you live in a mansion) then perhaps try and focus on smaller higher quality than larger pieces etc etc.
Following this principle one will have a splendid collection.
Just my opinion.
Mark
hi, I'm a newbie looking for beginner items. like a Chinese export plate. Maybe you can post in the "sell your own item" portion of the forum and there will probably be others interested as well 🙂
Ang P that’s sound promising. I just have to figure what’s a fare price. It seems like prices are different everywhere.
Hey @lotusblack
Firstly, hope all is well with you currently!
Mark gave some good intermediate-longterm collection advice to keep in mind over time..
Goodness don’t we all wish we had a big ol’ museum for our pieces to not face parting ways with some eventually..
As he said, definitely sell individually (if able to & willing patience/time) just due to variety of styles and quality across ranges not often checking all the boxes for a would-be buyer..
Should you have things of similar attributes/a set/ect, these can be sold in smaller curated group, however.
If you’ve gotten them sorted/identified (and are comfortable with such), maybe make a list of which pieces you think would be a proper enough fit for consignments of certain ranges (the idea of smaller/regional houses can often be overlooked: not everything has to be a 4-5 figure piece, yet you may get good results with the right visibility these days due to online platforms regardless).
Of course, eventually you may end up handling a fair bit of the selling yourself as we all do (for better, or worse!) with some of the items.
eBay/Catawiki (along with any user-centric selling platform) have their flaws, but also their features & benefits.
Depending on what you’ll be selling, some may do better as auctions on those places; yet some might serve you with better returns listed as retail pieces in the case of eBay (even if slower turnaround time, this can often work for items with less immediate demand, or more obscure types).
I’m sure other members will offer practical & experienced suggestions/guidance themselves just as Mark has: so stay tuned, and consider variety of ideas shared to see which ones may best suit your particular situation currently.
In any case; I wish you success & luck parting ways with some - and hopefully it leads to making room for a few more down the line!

@lotusblack are they by the same artist? if it's a group, maybe it's easier to sell a group? then less headache to ship each one.
I have no ideal who the artist are. I bought them so long ago I’m not even sure where I got them. Lol But they are in the sale pile.
I also am selling these three items but I have no clue what they are to large for a pillow. So this is going to be hard
@lotusblack These prints are by Kunisada. Difficult to be 100% sure if they are genuine, but they look worn, and such have low value, so assuming they are genuine you should unframe to see if they are glued down - if glued down, reframe and sell at a local antique shop for $50-75 each. If not hinged on the margin and without a bunch of worm holes, then sell on Ebay for $125-150 each.
Japanese woodblock print buyers are fairly serious, don't play the scam game on Ebay just as long as you take clear photos showing front and back and any damage/repairs, and pack safely so that the piece doesn't get further creased or damaged (packing is quite simple, too).
Do you have other prints? I do buy prints...just not these ones mainly due to condition.
What else do you have?
@greeno107 sweet they are real but yes they are glued. But if someone is willing to pay $50 each they are gone.
@lotusblack Clean the frames really well and bring them to your local antique shop... I would think they'd be happy to sell them or buy them. Good luck!
I think I going to try them on eBay is starting them off at 99cents is that bad ideal?
