I have had this vase for years but didn't know much about it until recently. I have a Chinese friend who is an avid collector and he believes it is a Republic period copy of an earlier period piece. If my memory serves right he said that the writing on the vase is telling about the old man teaching the young boy about life through a fishing allegory. He initially thought is was a fake from the pictures however once he saw it in person he changed his mind and said I needed to have an expert look at it to determine if it is actually older than the Republic period.
The vase is 15" tall, about 8" wide, and approximately 5" deep. It is extremely heavy, I would guess about 6-8 lbs. There is no mark on the bottom. I apologise for the pictures, the vase is at my shop so I am posting what I have and will add a few later of the top and bottom.

Hi,
I guess if your collector friend isn't sure and he has seen it in person, then it makes it hard for us to say much on the basis of photographs. Maybe you should send some photos to Christies? They will tell you quickly enough if it has any value.
However, I will venture a novice guess! It is no more than that as without seeing the other photos of base or being able to read the inscriptions, I don't have the knowledge to do more than guess. If I saw these photos on ebay, I would guess 1960 +/- 20 years, but as you say there is no mark on the base, maybe it is older? But not hugely.
I really don't know, but at least now I have set the ball rolling, maybe someone else will respond with better expertise.

Thank you Julia. We have Heritage Auctions here in Dallas so I’m going to try to bring it to them. The are interested in a Qiling plate I have so maybe they will look at both. Unfortunately unless the items are super valuable they move very slow. I am greatful for your response though as with all the other helpful responses from forum members! I am very fortunate to have found this site and Peter’s newsletter. I have learned more in the last week than the last 5 years?

What a difference better photos makes! It now looks much more interesting and I see it does have some kind of mark on the base. Have you tried rubbing a pencil over paper held over the mark or is there really no imprint at all, just a shadow of it?

yes it had a mark on the bottom it you look close you see it been rub out
down to the paste you can see the outline of seal. I have seen this before
most of time it replaced with older mark the vase an painting is good but
the top rim does not fit in older vase in this style that have seen. I think in

Unfortunately the mark has been rubbed off so there isn’t much of a way to get a better look at it. It seems the consensus is later Republic period. It’s a cool vase nonetheless. It would be nice to know what the writing says so hopefully some one can translate it.
