Looks like possibly another Shida Ware dish, about which forum member @spartakos recently educated me. The crackle pattern is extremely unusual. Not sure that this is helpful to anyone (or even interesting 🤣 ). It also has a repair, and not a pretty one, so probably not a valuable piece. But the crackle is curious.Â

Hi Todd,
Not sure that the crackle was intended on the part of the maker of this dish. Might be as a result it having a hard life I follow this seller they get some interesting items. If you scroll through all their listing there are some tea bowls very similar to a couple you posted recently. I am not sure of the age on some of their items especially the boxed items.

Hi Michael,
I follow this seller too. They are high volume, a lot to look through. I try to check with them every few days, looking through their items for 20 minutes or so. You have to wade through, but there are definitely good  things. They tend to date items conservatively.Â
I agree with the tea bowls, many similar things. I think this seller is not an expert on the topic, but has the basics down. Their descriptions are usually not overly informative, but at least they give the type of ware, although I know they make mistakes. Â
Over the years, I’ve purchased about five things from them.Â
I agree, I don’t think the crackle was intended, and is a result of a life... I’ve seen a number of dishes from this maker and none of the others have crackle. The pattern is curious, but is just a random consequence of physics I guess.

I just remembered that this is the seller from whom I bought three Japanese Lincoln funeral train dishes. Â (I think)

Looks to be Shida indeed, when I see a rather stiff decoration style, slightly unusual blue and spur marks(Shida was one of the last to stop using those) I think Shida. The crackle looks to be a result of firing deffect and as such makes the plate unique. Attaching my Shida plate for comparrison.

I like this seller because they mainly have items in Japanese taste their postage costs are usually very reasonable. That plate you posted showing a carp climbing the water fall is a very old Asian myth. Think it started in Tang times in China if the carp climbs the rapids of the yellow river it will become a dragon. It was used later by the Ming and students doing well in their exams were given plates showing a climbing carp. There is a Japanese saying' Koi no taki-nobori' Like a koi climbing the rapids given to people going places after overcoming great difficulties. Â
 I like you plate Sparkakos very Japanese.

I have two with that mark. I can only assume its from one of the Shida kilns. I’ve seen it at least two other times on Ebay, in fact there’s one on auction now. But its not even labeled as Shida, so no further information there. That one is even more clearly Shida than mine, as it has the wavy blue border.Â
