Hey everyone I picked up this beautiful vase that I believe the proper term for the shape is Tianqiuping. There is a beautiful teal crackle glaze on it and some white sponging? Not really sure how old it is or what this glazing technique is called. Any further information would be greatly appreciated!
I don't remember seeing anything quite like this - but from the foot and the wear, and the crackles I would think it has some age - maybe late Qing. ? It could be a copy of a much older Chinese form , or meeting some export demand for art nouveau , naturalistic pieces , but I really don't know.
The teal colour is unusual but on the close up it looks more pale and celadon , so I wonder which is in real life. ? Also on my monitor the sponged areas look definitely pink rather than white

Here are some more photos in natural light. You are basically echoing all my thoughts lol besides being made for the art nouveau movement, that's an interesting thought. It is very confusing and I also have no clue about the glaze, I own some yuan celadon pieces and its not even close I suppose thats obvious though from the difference in period. The white sponging I think is not sponging at all now just glaze sprinkled around the top over the teal glaze and when fired thats the outcome. A technique like that would strike me as one that isn't particularly old. The foots the only thing I can count on and the quality of the glazing around the foot. Late Qing / republic is what I initially thought as well but, idk. It has been sent into peter and hopefully I will have an answer Monday.
I would not call the color teal but a light greenish turquoise and it looks pink to me as well. I look forward to the results of the evaluation.
My first impression was that it’s Western studio ceramic so I would also be interested in the result.

Hi -
This is not a 'tianqiuping', which have a more spherical body and displays a more curved shoulder to a stright neck, finished with a flat mouth rim, never 'lipped' as in this example ...
This tianqiuping shape was first introduced at the Imperial kilns during the Yongle period, so early 15th C and continued into the Xuande period but was then abandoned after 1435. It was reintroduced, with minor variations to shape/profile in the Yongzheng period, so after 1723 mid 18th C ...
Not really my area but, as with Tam, I have never seen anything quite like it before, so will be interesting to hear Peter's thoughts on this ...

I wonder if he will have you clean up the bottom rim, maybe it is browned from a stand, it looks Asian to me, maybe Korean. I like the crackle look of it and the color. Goodness knows, I could be on the wrong track.
Bummer.
Based on the images provided, the bottle vase is judging by the shape,
colors, glaze and foot rim is based loosely on a shape first used during
the Song Dynasty and was later brought back into use during the early
Qing dynasty in a variety of glazes and colors. The present example is
however a fairly modern piece for a couple of reasons.
First is the coloring of the odd blotches added to the green ground, the
color and pattern is not something you find on old examples, then you
have the color and manner in whihc the footrim appears, too brown and
not enough foot showing. But very typical of later examples.

Many times along the way of antique book dealing and now other antiques, I found that the mistakes I've done were paid by the lessons I've learned, and I never get discouraged and keep on learning! Just thought I'd share this!
