Guess the real one. Actually I know one is real, I am pretty sure one is fake, and the other I am not sure one way or the other.

I have no idea but if I were going to buy one, seeing no more of it than this, then I would go for the third one because I like it best. ?

From what I can see on my current small screen the third one looks to have a bit to much crusty dirt on the top edge, but I like the birds.
The first one looks like someone cleaned i with a brillo pad. So I am going to plump for number 2

I know nothing about metal but I really love these riddles. No. 1 is the fake I think because of the unusual parrot. No. 3 is the real thing because of the high quality although the guy on the right side has a European look. No.2 probably also a fake - birds sitting on a sunflower? Rather unusual.

Birgit, I also thought number 1 was the fake because the decoration seemed European but I can't see the parrot! ? You must have a very good eye for birds!

Absolutely no idea - however, I'll go for No 3 due to the perceived high quality. No 2 is also a possible, I do not like No 1 due to the decoration. But I'am probably way of ... good fun though ...

2 is real simply because it appears most likely to have been fashioned in a blacksmith using more basic Iron pre 1850.
Number 1 and 2 seem to be cut from similar designs and number 1 appears to have electroplating, and machine made. I am not certain if that is electroplating but if not and it was crafted then it would be rather fine.Also the material looks more like an alloy.
Number 2 looks like well worn very old iron.
The parrot is at 7 o’clock looking upwards.

Good observation, Giovanni! Parrots rule out Tang dynasty I guess. You find them on late Qing export vases for SE Asia.

If we apply the same rules to these as we do porcelain, don’t we need to ask why there is that seemingly pointless crusty stuff on no. 3?

Ha Ha funny how we see things differently on our screens those parrots look like owls to me. They seem to have flat round faces.

Let me 1st say that I know nothing of this subject. Just happened to come across one of these on ebay a few days ago, then started looking around to see what I could find out. The 1st item sold at Christie’s for $161,000 usd. The 2nd and 3rd items were on ebay recently for under $400. The 2nd item from China.
Being that china does not allow the export of antiques...especially one a thousand years old....I am assuming that the 2nd item is fake. (Tang 618-907 AD)
I don’t think any of us have much experience with the Tang Dynasty, so it was a crapshoot. ?
I am glad everyone had fun. Those are indeed parrots and there are two, good eye Birgit and Giovanni.
