Hello all, new to this space and just signed up for Peter's site. But I got this vase and I can't find the mark on the base anywhere. I have surmised that it is Hanyu Pinyin script. Here's a shot of the overall vase and the mark on the base. Thanks All! Happy Halloween!

About the mark... I think it looks in line with many marks of the early 20th century and further. For what it exactly means 🤔 no idea... maybe someone else has seen this before.

The colors look like Straits porcelain, the cockerell and hen behind a rock is unusual, the painting does not make me think it is Japanese. Welcome, interesting vase and a good size. Sharon

It is most likely by Yamatoku. The mark may be fuku.
Hello Julia, I tried the translation programs where the script is put into the program and it came up with Fuku as well. I still don't know what on earth that means as far as when and who made it. It has both underglaze as well as overglaze and what appears to be line etchings. So many of the images are raised, but not the rooster and the background. Thanks, Richard
Hand drawn mark, if it could be Chinese then maybe someone could check their new red book of marks? Google Lens was a strike out on that mark.
Hello Sharon, thanks much! I had a similar result. I even went into Japanese and Chinese translation and drew out the symbols and got a zero hit as well except for the Fuku reference in both! But that doesn't jive either. Thanks!Â
If you put Yamatoku vase or ware into a search engine and select images lots of similarly decorated examples will appear.Â
If you look at the link below, scroll right down as it is an alphabetical list, you will find some info on Yamatoku. They used a variety of marks but between these two actions, you should get an idea of the age.
Hello Julia, thanks. I use that link all the time but did not find the mark. A dealer in England thinks that the name is: æž—å»™ which according to Google translate is "Forest Room" so it may just be the name of the piece???

So having gone down the rabbit hole here's what I have found. If you write the Japanese in the right to left with the symbols on the bottom of the piece like this: 廙林 The translation comes out as: untouched forest.
If you write the same script as: æž—å»™ The Translation is:Â Hayashi Teng
The same block written without the cross hatch through the middle of the second figure as it appears on the vase then means
林窯 "Hayashi gama" or simply Hayashi Kiln. If you reverse it it says Kiln of Hayashi. The first one is the seal of the seal of the Hayashi Sen kiln. It is associated with the Hasami area of Arita porcelain production in Kyushu, formerly known as Hizen. Hizen is comprised of modern-day Saga and Nagasaki prefectures in the northwestern area of Kyushu and had independent status during the Edo period. Ceramic and porcelain production in Hizen began in the early Edo period and continues to the present day. The area is also known as the birthplace of porcelain production in Japan.

Hayashi wares seem to be imari style, which makes it most unlikely that this is the origin for your vase. Besides, as I am sure you are aware, you can't ignore parts of the mark. Yamatoku used many marks, some of which seem to have no meaning.
I posted the Gotheborg link not for the mark, but because you said you still know nothing of the manufacturer so I thought the potted history of Yamatoku may help.
I am still convinced this is one of their pieces, but good luck in the rabbit hole. 😊Â
