This is a shot in the dark. I don’ t really expect much help on this...too oddball. But who knows.
Seems a bit old to me, just by the glaze and the subtle crackle. Would this be labeled studio or art pottery. Kind of surprising that such an odd piece has no marking. Unless that tiny indentation on the foot is a mark. The 2nd small vase, I am posting, because it has the same style glaze. A color...red this time, and the smoky black/gray mixed in. I wonder if this technique has a name...
Thanks, Todd

I didn’t realize my feet were in the pics. That is more than a little uncouth 🤣

Are you a contortionist or how did you manage to bring your feet into the picture? 😂
The second one could be made in China for export to SE Asia.
Birgit
Hmmmm ..... 😆
Girlfriend was on the bed, editing vacation videos. Had to work around her.
I had thoughts of going into Starbucks and giving them the yellow chalice to fill up (as a more interesting choice than a coffee tumbler)...but Julia had previously informed me that there could be lead-based issues with this type...so that is a no-go. 😆
Oh, possibly Chinese for SE Asia? That is interesting. Thanks Birgit!

Hi Todd,
Can I ask on the first vase those dark patches on the yellow back ground are they glazed on or in ? Or do they feel as with a little persuasion with soap and water and stiff brush they might go away... just my reading of the photo's. When I first saw the second one I thought the glaze looks like Old Seto glaze the clay also looks like that gritty clay you see on Seto pots before they started to make porcelain. They still make things in the old way mainly cups for followers of the tea ceremony. However Birgt has mentioned China and is much more likely to be correct.
Michael
Hi Michael,
I can understand why you ask that. It is hard to tell from the pictures. The black/gray is indeed under the glaze, and I assume intentional. I have seen similar glazes occasionally. But never in this odd shape of course.
The red vase does have a mark. I haven’t tried my luck finding it yet.

Hello Todd
The yellow Chalice has a very Awaji like glaze and clay.
The bottle seems to be Persimon glaze, Mashiko?
Best regargs
Spartakos
Thanks so much Spartakos. Very good tips. I was unfamiliar with Mashiko/Hamada, but I can see that the glazes are very similar. And Awaji, for the other, very possible. Awaji did do some unusual things...
