Hi everyone!......This is a recent Thrift purchase.....It looks to me like a Chinese Republic Period Vase......its in perfect condition, no chips, or crazing, the porcelain is very thin and light.....I would like to know if this is a authentic Republic Period vase, or a very good reproduction.....I am hoping that someone can help identify my vase.....Thanks!.....

How tall is it? The decorations can look crude on a large vase but in fact can be quite fine if the vase measures only 8cm....
You have to be extra careful with republican pieces. I've seen very good replicas lately and sometimes genuine pieces do not show so much age because they were made of good quality paste and are only 100-80 years old.
In my opinion your piece was made in the second half of the 20th century or later. The glaze, the inside and bottom do not look very old. The quality of decoration and colors aren't consistent with other republican period landscape I've seen.

In my opinion your vase is not from the Republic period. I base this on the following observations:
1. The glaze appears to be a sugary-white consistent with gas furnace.
2. The glaze is too perfect for this type of ware. There are no bubbles/pits one would see on period pieces of this quality. Hence gas furnace versus wood.
3. Unusual shape. Almost a fanciful shape. Not seen unil the later period.
4. No obvious weathering observed. Something often, but not always seen on republican pieces.
I think your vase probably dates from the earlier part of the PROC. I write that because you state it is fairly light. If it was heavy I would have suggested a much later period, post 1990's or thereabouts.
Still it is a nice looking vase with hand-painted design. Nice little thrift shop find!

Peter made a video on Republic pieces and how they are decorated. It must be on the site somewhere. If you can find it, it really is worth watching and will help you see the differences between the decoration on your vase and pieces from that era. I found it very helpful.

Hi!...The vase is about 8 3/4 in ht x 3 1/4 width...it has a slight bluish hue to it......I do watch the Bidamount videos often....and I have seen the video about Republic porcelain several times.....I did notice that the tress were a little different in reference to how the bark and leaves were painted....but every artist has a different style....so I didn't think much about it..... I love absolutely the detail of the scenes.....and I only paid $5.....so I still feel that its a nice find........Thanks for your help!

before I start considering painting details etc. I always look at the bottom of an item. A foot like this looks like on any modern cup or bowl in the kitchen cupboard: smooth, very white, with a perfect curve from the rim to the inside, no flaws whatsoever. If the foot looks modern the item is also modern though some people (not you) try to deceive themselves with „imperial quality“. If you know how a modern foot looks like you have a powerful tool for detecting fakes and copies.
