Not sure if we can just talk about marks here, but if so has anyone seen this mark before? Did they only use the red characters without the double square box starting in the Guangxu period or?? when did that begin?
these ones are the imperial marks "Made by imperial order, Qianlong reign"
but it is blue in the Davison's book
Thank you very much. I was thinking this mark was of pretty high quality. Is it a problem that it is red and not blue? Were red marks like this made during the Qianlong period or only Guangxu and beyond?
Is it a stamped mark or hand painted? I can't tell from the photo... But in general late Qing and onward, but republic and onward if stamped.

It's still hard to say without seeing the whole piece, but yes it would be Guangxu or later.
@88teo88 How did imperial porcelain leave China? Are there any articles about that? And just because it was by Imperial order does not mean it was necessarily made for imperial use? Or was it only for Imperial use?
@centralpapottery my understanding is most of it was looted, some was given away as gifts, and some was sold off at the end of the Qing dynasty.
A large portion was looted in 1860 during the sacking of the summer palace.

@88teo88 could you tell me what the symbol in the third character means that looks like a capital P? The Qianlong marks I found didn’t have that P symbol on the right side of the third word/mark.
@centralpapottery I don't think republic porcelain can be considered Imperial because the Imperial court ended at the end of the Qing dynasty when the republic period began. So if something is republic I would think by definition it could not be imperial.
@centralpapottery Imperial is wares only for the court. Because it is fired in an imperial kiln doesn’t make it Imperial lots of orders were produced in the imperial kiln even private shops used the kiln. A imperial item would have been produced in the imperial workshop and even by private shops under strict guidance. Then there are private orders these are either gifts from the court or purchases requested by nobles of imperial wares. I have never seen an imperial piece mark in the style as these bowls. This mark is very common republic period mark. No republic period kiln produced imperial wares but the shops did hire potters from the imperial workshop this is why republic period pieces are of very high quality.
