Hi, this vase is offered by one of my favourite sellers. They are usually quite accurate in their descriptions and they say it is Guangxu. I tend to agree but I'd like to ask about the experts' opinion before I buy. The vase is quite large, almost 60 cm and I think the parrots are quite unusual. Maybe made for the south east Asian market, I have seen a colored vase pair with parrots before.
Best regards
Birgit

Dear Birgit,
yes, the vase is late 19th / early 20th century.
I don't know at which price it is on sale, but do not pay it too much, these vases are not much valuable.
Giovanni
Hello,
100% Guangxu. Have seen few of them (not with parrots) last weekend in Lille. Giovanni is right about the value as well. They usually are tall, 60+ cm. Celadon base, b&w decorations. I am looking for a pair in perfect condition, for my own place. With a bit of luck you can find vase like that around 150-250 euros in Europe on a regular fairs (have seen them at smaller auction houses as well), even cheaper on a lower level event.
Regards,
Adrian

Hi Giovanni and Adrian,
they want 700 Euro for the vase but will probably go down to 550-600. As I don’t have the possibility to look anywhere but on the web for me the price is acceptable. Or do you think it’s much too expensive? The vase is not celadon just blue and white and there’s a small chip from production on the foot. I wouldn’t buy it as an investment, just because I like the design very much. We are restoring a house from 1905 and I can imagine it standing in the window later.
Birgit
I think 550-600 euros is way to expensive. I would wait for an auction on ebay where the seller is located in your country. You could probably get a similar for less than 220 euros including shipping.
Yes I agree that price , even the lower one, is much too expensive . This kind of vase is for export and although the decoration, especially the flowers, is quite pretty and the vase is a good space filler or room signature piece, it does not have much intrinsic quality , imo ( I think the shades of blue are quite weak , and the composition of the main scene with the birds is quite busy and crowded).
At 220 euros or less , it would make sense. But because it's so big , I understand why they are pushing up the price.

Dear Birgit,
the vase has a celadon background, there is no doubt about that. I personally don't like those vases. Real blue and white is more valuable besides being of more classic taste.
The value is as said by others, you can buy it at flea markets (they are common) for 150 euro normally.
If you are interested of having a big blue and white vase of that period for decorating your house, I have some ones that you could like, at good price.

Hello,
Keep the money in your pocket. Totally not worth it. For 700 e you could have at least few nice items for your place - look for an antique fairs somewhere close to you, or even a flee markets, give yourself a bit of time and you will find far more better items for much less. By the way, in last Miller's there is a pair of taller vases like that (period and style) with much better decorations and the price range is 500-1000 for a pair (still a bit too much in my opinion) but that pair is more decorative than this one. Honestly they came up with crazy price for this vase. A year from now it will be still in their stock, unsold...
All the best,
Adrian
P.S.
Huge apologies, I missed the part you don't have other possibility to get antiques but from the web. In this case I would definitely brows the internet and look for small auction houses, local to you and check their stock, from time to time they can surprise with their appraisal.

Thank you all for your opinions! That’s what I like about this forum: you can talk about prices and articles that are for sale, something that isn’t allowed on Gotheborg. It might indeed be better not to buy this vase. I will keep it on my watch list however, to see if the price drops dramatically some day. As for large vases for the window, I have already some in my possession that will look great there. Sometimes you just need an excuse to yourself to buy another piece...
Best regards
