Hope you are having a good summer so far.
I came across this jar yesterday and was curious if anyone of you could identify where it might have been made. I'm assuming it's 20th c. but I don't know monochromes very well.
It's about 7" tall and a slightly warm green (I tried to adjust the color as best I could from my camera phone which enhances too much, making it look more torquoise). It appears to be earthenware. The last photo is of the inside. The seller says it's Chinese. Asking price: $250, no lid. That's all I know!

My god, that foot is a disaster. It's like a cat ate something radioactive and then barfed it all up! At any rate, I probably wouldn't be inclined to buy it, but I'm not sure what it is, so who knows, maybe someone will chime in and say it's something good, so let's wait and see people say about it.Â
It looks like an experiment that got sold off to the west. We pay for their educations, I swear. This is not a successful piece. It's not wabisabi. It is student-grade work.

There are others on line that may well be older, but this could be a place to start looking. You can always work backwards. I was interested in one that was said to be first half of 20th c but when I found this, I wasn't sure about risking it.

The lady who was helping me didn't know; she thought it could be an American studio piece, maybe raku, considering how dark the interior is. (The antique store is a large consignment type with a lot of vendors, the one selling this wasn't on site.)
I kind of liked the color but have no place to put it. I thought I would share it as an educational opportunity.

The one I was looking at was dark inside, too. There are others out there, of a type, not all identical but I have seen some with bases like yours. Whether they are all new, I am not sure. I know little about them, I just found something similar on line and was researching it as I wasn't sure the dating (Republic period) was correct. If you search on Green glaze Hunan jar, you will fin many examples of this type.
I do like green glazes. 😊Â
