Hi all,

Would anyone be able to help me with determining the age/translation of these tiny pieces? I went antique shop hopping with Jeremy the other week, and I brought these home (along with the cute egg cups from Catawiki!). The base of the teapot reads "Mengchen" I think, but that's all I was able to find. Seems they're dated anywhere from 19thc. to the 90s. They are tiny - the teapot is 2" tall and the other vessel is 1.5" tall, but with interesting metal fittings on the handle and spout. Interestingly, the teapot seems functional. It has a wonderful pour without any drips.

Cute! I don’t think it’s a miniature set, they actually use these small pots in China, Aliexpress is full of them (new ones of course). I use a teapot for Oolong that’s only slightly larger, 2 1/2 inch tall. The second pot is used for keeping the strained tea so it doesn’t stay on the leaves and gets bitter.

Birgit is right, it’s a “Meng Chen’ style tea pot- small pear shape teapot for oolong and kongfu tea, sipping it (not drinking it). The brand is under the spout, not clear for me to read it. Here is a Xiying teapot same size as yours and a miniature.

Interesting! Thank you all for enlightening me on this tiny teapot. I toyed with the idea of using it, but there was a really ugly black residue inside that I couldn't clean out, but they're fun to display.

The underglaze blue miniature teapot is adorable! Is that one late Qing?

And yes, Sharon, I bought the set from Jeremy, including the coffee can for my coffee can collection!

@yinchris The miniature teapot is lovely. It must be incredibly small. Kangxi with a later lid replacement?

@bartholin Here's a mini yixing set I have. Don't know anything about it yet. The pot is about two inches high including the lid.

My everyday teapot is the exact opposite in size.  It was the largest Yixing teapot to be found on EBay.  I tend to drink a pot of English Breakfast a day.

If used, these pots need to be ‘seasoned’ with one specific type of tea and then never washed with soap, only rinsed with clean water.  Just like a cast iron skillet.  After years of use, the tea should permeate the body of the clay.

@shinigami

Yes! Kangxi with a later lid replacement which it's too big. Still looking for a better one.
