I bought this candle stick holder I hoping it’s an early Ming or at least 18th century. I paid $40 bucks for it. It’s pretty dirty right now. Thanks for any input.

Jiaqing to mid 19th c.  In your last cloisonne post, I mentioned the blue enamel Greek key design…classic element of good quality 19th c. cloisonne.

Very nice candle stick holder. Definitely looks 19th century.

I think I have posted earlier that early Ming cloisonne was a mix of clay based rather than enamels.

I agree, 19th c, I would say mid to late, so second half.  Very nice.

I have been checking something that bothered me and have decided to revise my estimation to late 19thc possibly early 20th. It was partly the colours but that is hard to check because of variations, so I focused on trying to find a border comprised of those little half circles, which are very frequently seen on 20th c pieces, but not on earlier qing/ming ones.

I have looked at a lot of old ie 19th c and earlier cloisonné this morning and seen it once on a piece attributed to the Guangxu period.

I may be wrong of course.

@julia probably not wrong I have found Late Qing comparisons mid 19th century comparisons. It’s somewhere in the area.

It would be good to establish when the semi-circle border started.

It may be worth comparing the colours to the vase that Teo posted a while back that Peter gave his opinion on.

@julia I think narrowing down the floral pattern will help. It seems the floral pattern is much different in earlier to later periods. Also  the mixing of enamels. My piece has a lot of solder burn also. The floral pattern on mine is in the 18th century style also 18th century pieces have Greek boarders. But I see transition of 19th century styles. So I will narrow it down somehow.

Maybe but the actual colours and those half circles can't be ignored. That pattern is seen a lot on porcelain in the later 19th c. I have a vase with it. I can never write the name correctly but you can read about it here:

https://watersilkdragon.wordpress.com/2019/09/05/contemplating-buddhas-countenance-the-bao-xiang-hua-%e5%ae%9d%e7%9b%b8%e8%8a%b1-aka-hosoge-or-lotus-or-peony-scroll-in-qing-and-c20th-chinese-porcelain/

Again, I may be wrong but someone will be kind enough to correct me. 😊
