My hunch is this could be ming and not song so looking forward to the feedback.

Could be. But there is a lot of good looking fake Longquan ware on the market.
I would think this one is authentic.
Lingzhi handles and correct. I've seen them before.
@avatar Can you post a reference that tells the period and shows a photo? It would be great to make a comparison.
This was an auction in 2017 in Sweden.

@superox Have you ever seen those type of handles on Ming, Yuan, or Song mallet vases? I'm looking...I do not know the answer, but I think this will be your best clue as to determining authenticity short of a TL test.
TL isnt super great for Ming. If it shows consistent, it could still be as young as 1944 per the test's window of error. Would still need context.
@superox Are they reliable with their dating? I really don't know anything with regards to smaller auction houses level of expertise.
@rahawkins Oxford states their test is +/- 20% the stated age, which is more accurate than you are stating.
Let's say the vase was made in the year 1622. Then the vase is 400 years old +/- (20%) or +/- 80 years... that would give a range of 1540 to 1702.
I'd pay for that kind of confirmation, especially since the porcelain clay changed dramatically in the 17th c., so the TL test combined with what we know of porcelain manufacturing of that time would narrow the range significantly.
@greeno107. I wonder if technical improvements have been made. I've seen quotes for +/- 300 years.

I found that on this piece of mine that the footrim looked like its been roughly chipped. I have seen on photos that Song pieces did seem to have a more even footrim while my footrim looked like it has been chisel. That is why my gut feel is its definetely not Song dynasty. Have you guys been aware at which certain period did we observe this type of footrim ?
Also, would this have been done post firing in kiln ?
How much would a TL test cost and would it be worth in terms of value of this piece ?

@superox TL tests runs about $600-800...I don't know the value of your mallet vase if genuinely old. The link you posted of a similar handled vase did not sell. Is it because the price was too high, or perhaps not authentic. Something to consider before spending the money on a TL test.
