Hi everyone,
This is my first post on this forum , so apologies in advance for my errors and poor sense of humor.
I picked this up over the weekend stands 16.73 inches tall, in overall good condition with some slight flaws in the glaze but and nice large piece. Can see iron oxide coming through glaze on foot rim. In some pics it looks slighlty blue in glaze but in other light is whiter.
Qianlong mark to the base.
Thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, I would say this is a new-ish reproduction ,
the shape looks wrong with a short neck, and the foot and base look like typical modern items . Iron oxide traces at the footrim are now quite common on recent porcelain, presumably because people believe it's a sign of age and the manufacturers now have learned how to produce this effect.

I would concur with Tam, and also add that the overall painting style is not very good, the motifs are incorrectly drawn and are quite 'stiff and placed'. The six character Qinglong mark to the base is also very poor drawn, with stroke errors to several of the characters ...

Agree with the others. Post 1980. Maybe even 21th century because of the pseudo repair on the foot. The newest trick seems to be to apply felt pads to make the item look pre-owned. I saw it now and then on fakes. Or am I too mistrustful?

I wasn't aware of that, Birgit, but I never buy anything with those pads on. ?
Thanks everyone again for their thoughts on this vase, I did get excited and put this to the forum before I got a reply back from the Id.A putting it to late 19th to early 20th century 1875-1900. Not Qianlong but am still happy with the result especially for the small amount I paid for it.

was the ID done by Peter? I just wonder because all of us thought it’s modern and you have an appraisal saying it’s late Qing?

Yes the ID was done by Peter. When I first saw it I didn't pay much attention because of the shape, but on closer inspection I thought this is odd the glaze, the foot etc not like the repros I have seen. So I took a gamble was under $100. I have it sitting next to a what I was told was a Kangxi period ginger jar in my cabinet as can be seen in pic.The paste and color look very similar so now I am questioning the ginger jar lol.
If Peter says it’s late Qing it most probably is. I like your cabinet, the items display really nice there.

It's hard to tell sometimes as shapes and contrast of colours get distorted by artificial light and cameras , but if it is late Qing then it's quite a niece piece i assume , I sold a late Qing blue and white dragon vase 2 weeks ago , the neck had been re-stuck and the painting was no-where near as good and only 6 inch tall . Got £65 pounds for it.
This one would have mine beat hands down .

I agree that this vase is a modern product post 2000 with an incorrect shape and extremely poor quality stiff artwork. Some might remember a vase I asked about here a few months ago (see photographs below). Everyone on the forum told me it was a modern replica although it was sold at auction on eBay to me as a Kangxi vase and it was included on bidamount.com as a genuine Chinese antique item as a result of which I assumed it was not a recent production. The fact that the vase was a modern product was also confirmed for me by Jan-Erik Nilsson at Gotheborg. com. In this case, I did get a full refund of the auction price of about $650 and did not have to return the item since it was regarded as a worthless fake. Only two days ago I donated the vase to a charity and I don't know what they will do with it. The seller has since disappeared from eBay under his original name, but I assume he is now selling under a different name. He is a Chinese gentleman living in the UK.

Images are always highly subjective, even when taken in the best light with top equipment and I do not wish to disagree with Peter ID but ...
I would still agree with others original views, including my own, and Errol's thoughts on this vase - the shape, very stiff painting style and errors in the writing of the QL mark all indicate this is relatively modern and not late 19th c, IMO ...
