Hey all,
I'm trying to know the translation of this mark off this scroll painting depicting a pair of Mandarin ducks in nature. Appears to be an original painting vs a print.
Also noting one detail across the entire scroll, there's whiteish splatter marks from top to bottom including the frame of the scroll, as if it had been rained on but very specific spots all at once, but not soaked all over as it should've been. Whats odd, it looks like it's supposed to be apart of the painting. Has anyone seen this technique before if it is one?
Overall the scroll has good appeal, design is nice, lines and details are good and solid but some of the distance perspective is wonky a bit for the lily pads as it goes back. Not sure when this is from, but could be mid century.

@pbarski93 Preston, I don't recognize the artist by the manner of the work, and I don't read Chinese (or seals). The scene depicts mandarin ducks, a symbol in Chinese culture of everlasting marriage because it is believed that mandarin ducks mate for life, and if one should die, the mate will soon follow (not true... I'm a veteran aviculturist and raised dozens of mandarins).
The style is reminscent of the 1970's depictions of birds and flowers. There are a few prominent artists of that time, but the colors on your painting don't match much of what I recall from the books I've read (looked through, since I don't read Chinese).
That said, I like the quality of the painting, so I believe the artist was professional, that this painting is not purely 'tourist' quality, but it would be impossible for me to put a price on it...could be $100... could be $10,000 if it was by a famous artist of the time.
Your best bet is if somone can offer help with the seal, but even then, the seal may not offer insight into the authenticity. If the seal is of a famous artist, this could be a copy of their work, which is very very common with paintings.
I can say that those who know me, know that I have very fussy taste (I'm kind of a snob)... as for your painting, I would hang it in my home proudly, so if that says anything... great! If it doesn't .... great!

@greeno107 nice to know behind the details about this! I'll be honest I thought the seal looked more Japanese than Chinese based on the characters and size of the seals coverage initially but maybe I was smacked in the head for a moment since that is Chinese charactering. Plus the depiction makes a lot of sense for the quality of the scroll. That helps a ton!
I'm getting better at style and quality behind the work a bit better now, if you're interested in this piece regardless of the outcome, I'm happy to offer it to ye. Hopes are low its a prominent artist, and likely a copy either way if so, but we'll see either way what the outcome applies to.
@yinchris thank you for the assist! Some of the text helps, but I don't think it's the full detail yet. I could be wrong either way about that.
I cant find any relevant details about this studio name either but that also could mean anything.
It's something to ponder about for a few nights at least while I learn more about simplified Chinese kangee and cross converse with this piece from it.
