I'm curious what others will think of this little box. It seems almost new because the color is so white, it is free of damage, doesn't show signs of wear, etc. But I really like the color of the blue and I think the decoration has a nice feel to it. I was really on the fence that this could either be 20th C/new or possibly as old as 18th so I'm confused to say the least. I guess it felt to me like it could be a very old piece that had never been used much, or just very cared for over the years. It does seem to have an impressed mark but it is very hard to make out - it seems like maybe a circular seal mark. I tried to photograph it but it's hard to see even in person with magnification. At any rate, I'm looking forward to hearing others thoughts. Cheers! John

Hey John,
I actually saw this last night and my gut feeling was "Oh, its Japanese!", I was super tired and figured I'd sleep on it. Now that I am mostly coffee'd up I still feel that it is Japanese, something in the way the crane is depicted. I could be totally wrong, but that's just where my gut is sending me.
I must say I really like it, especially the shape of the opening.
If you have a piece of clay or silly putty, perhaps, press it into the mark and see if that helps you read it?
Anywho good luck, I'm of course likely to be wrong, but at least you have a wonderful box.

@johnshoe You know I like it with the crane and interesting shape, I think we have seen those lines on the bottom before, just can't remember in what regard. The top script figure on the mark looks familiar too, like a little house with a gable roof, can't make out the rest of the mark. Hopefully someone will know, what do you think, Japanese or Chinese?
I think Japanese...something about the looseness of the clouds. But, very pretty.
Just looked at Japanese marks, maybe my little house is two characters smushed together for Great Japan but still have no idea on bottom character.
I'm going to probably go buy it and then see if I can figure out more about it.
@jbeer2121 We posted at the same time, except you posted a minute before me and it takes me a long time to clear the spelling errors and yet they still creep in, struck me as most probably Japanese as well.

@sharonp I got it. And as a bonus I stumbled upon a nice Kangxi plate while I was there. And another nice 19th C plate too. All for dirt cheap. It's been a good day!
I believe it contains some of the eight precious things in Chinese symbolism. The one to the right of the crane is the jewel or pearl. The one directly below is the solid lozenge. I am not sure about the one to the left of the crane. It might be a different type of symbol. I think this box is Chinese. I have not yet figured out the mark on the bottom. The bottom might be a two character mark for youthful life but I'm still not sure. It's not clear.
