So I got this a while ago, and I still haven't really found a good way to date it or figure out the seals(clearly difficult to read/photograph), but I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it or ideas.
Stylistically these bird paintings and birds and bamboo became super popular during the song dynasty and have been painted since then. This painting seems to have two types of glue used, or remnants of it, as under uv and loupe inspection the tears appear to be thinner glue(rice/wheat paste) and the mounting glue might be a more modern or non organic adhesive, possibly animal based...
not really sure... but this may be a fan?

I have the same problem I have been looking at a painting in a shop that no one will buy. I think it’s Song but I can’t find any comps. Lovely birds painting.
Did you ever google the anglo-chinese term Gongbi? 😅
you might find a chinese website with a lot of nice pictures from the palace museum... also one of your Birdy's @jbeer2121...

Haha It seems everyone and their mother has copied this painting.... I have found a half dozen Song dynasty attributed ones, and too many to count in the Ming and Qing periods. I guess it could just be an old copy, there are some differences in the strokes and shading when I pulled up some close ups of the NPM one and a few other ones I found on some of the Chinese sites. I think the wear is old but I suppose it could just as easily be new and fake worn, I haven't a clue. I literally just watched a video of someone tracing this painting out stroke by stroke, just to practice their brushwork I guess.
I like it, so it goes on the wall, until I find a good source for seals one day.

I am no expert of Song painting. But this looks not Song. The birds looked cut and pasted, and not as degraded as the silk background. Song paintings, even fans like this, are quite rare and rather expensive, say 200,000 USD at least in market.
