I would love some input on this; what I believe is a brush holder. The art on it is a little hurried. The face is nice but I know that the faces help date porcelain. I just don’t know how to do that. The glaze has some grit and iron spots and glaze pulls which made me think it could be an early Republic piece. The foot is well trimmed. Your thoughts are very much appreciated.
This looks like a scroll holder rather than a bitong/brush pot.
The facial expression indicates late Qing period however, the detail on the shrub is lacking detail. Almost dabbed on. Overall poorly executed and done with haste.
The calligraphy is IMO very rough and poorly written.
The figure has no appearance of hands!
I believe this item is from the late 20th century for the stated reasons.

1920/30s in my opinion, judged from the faces and general appearance. The painting is not first quality but quite nice with typical Republic colors. Ladies often had long sleeves so the hands were not visible. Typical for a Republic hat stand is the worn gold rim on top. If it’s a hat stand the size should be about 28 cm.
