This is a heavy bowl, got it at my usual Japanese used shop.
One thing about pieces like this that confuses me is that parts of it, at least, look like it could have been drawn by a child. I’ve heard many people say that the old artists were superior. And I am able to see the difference sometimes. But then some of the very old pieces look childish, so that creates confusion for me.
Then another thing I wonder is...if it were a fake it would have a reign mark (a fake one of course), wouldn’t it? So, when I am not sure, which is most of the time...I think, well it might not be that old, but at least its not a fake trying to be something else. But am not sure this theory is even sound...
This is not a simple hobby :p

I believe it Chinese I have seen this foot style before it look late 19th maybe
earlier than that I think peter has a video with this foot rim and bottom and yes
some of the paintings look like a child painted it.

I have a bowl with this foot rim, I think it is called a Pi (or Bi?) foot rim. I believe we may have had this discussion somewhere else on the site as I think I posted a photo of it. I think this style became popular (again) in the mid-20th century but I haven't yet seen it on anything Japanese but I can see why you think your bowl is Japanese and it could be.
Other than that I can't help. It almost looks as though it has been over-painted with the more garish pattern over the blue. Interesting.

Chinese? That had barely even occurred to me, I had just assumed it was Japanese. Thanks so much. I looked at the thread also, very helpful. Wow, that dragon vase on ebay...almost appears the maker was trying to be funny. Truly awful. As for this bowl...yes, the painting is weird, at least to my eyes. Not a beauty, but it looks like it has been well used over the years.

At a glance, I would say Japanese but I haven't seen that foot on a Japanese bowl. Maybe it was made in China and decorated in Japan. 🙂
Maybe some one else has a more definite idea.

I would say Japanese for sure , I have seen this foot rim on a few items , some 19th and 20th century Imari Japanese bowls , Which is where I would date this to , 19th or early 20th century , The pattern is typical Japanese.

So...a Japanese pattern and a primarily, but not exclusively, Chinese foot. I definitely learned something too...which makes this a success.
I reviewed two of Peter’s teaching videos on fakes and on Chinese porcelain again today....looking for that foot rim. I didn’t find it, but it was worth it to watch them again anyway. A little more sinks in each time I view...I think.

I think it is absolutely Japanese, more specifically Fukagawa - the patterns look very similar to me, not younger than 2nd half of 19th century.
