I don't think this is Kangxi :  you would expect to see some fritting or flaking on the edges and around the handle and spout ;  the bluish white of the clear glazed porcelain is not typical for Kangxi , imo, the dirty foot looks modern - not sure what to make of the horizontal line in the porcelain seen on the base  ,

the metal fitting to the lid is not typical either and looks quite recent , and I think the gold crossed lines coulkd be painted to confuse or to imitate gilded export items .

Looks fine as kangxi to me. Check the Rob Michiels link for some nice pictures of the bottom.

I would not try to remove anything from this (meaning the gold/rust?), as it could damage the original gilting. I would probably give it a very good clean, I imagine that the foot will clean up a bit if you give it a 24-48 hour soak in mild soapy water. Are there any hallmarks on the metal? Is it gilted silver? Very nice find, indeed!

If you check the Rob Michiels one, there is not alot of fritting on that one as far as I can see.

I thought it was rust!! It seems to go around the sides, too. Could something metal have been wrapped around it?

Probably not, but I simply can't believe anyone would paint over it in that horrible way.

I think you guessed right. If this was export to the islamic market, my guess would be that some kind of harness was created for it, so it would be easy to transport (the owners could have been bedouins?).

Anyway, that is my 5 cent wild guess.

That does look like gold paint, rather than rust in the new photos.  It reminds me of a Japanese vase I put up on here a while back that had had a lot of gold-ish brown paint added to it.  I scratched a lot off with my fingers but found a soft wire wool was very effective at removing it.

I had nearly finished the job when my husband knocked it off the table and broke it!

I would be very very careful, or not attempt to remove this at all. There is something that does look like original gilting on it as well, you should get a professional to do that restoration, especially when this piece seems to be rather valuable. Too much art has been ruined by inexperienced attempts to restore or repair.

Thanks for posting more and very detailed photos . The cleaned up foot base looks much more convincing for C18th and the inclusions/black spots in the porcelain and overall condition suggests also to me this is C18th.

Peter recommends hydrogen peroxide for cleaning cracks etc , but it should be medical grade, and I agree with Michael , you need to have a lot of confidence and knowledge to be applying strong chemicals, If you can remove the gilding by hand washing and cloths then I suggest you continue that way because it shouldn't damage the glaze

I think, looking at the more detailed photos, that there must have been a reason for the gilding. I wouldn't remove anymore before asking an expert if they have come across that rather odd pattern of circles and angular lines before.

You could send photos to a major auction house or museum and ask their opinion.  It is quite intriguing.

Thank you sooo much Guys:) I'm very grateful

I've been looking for european painters for 20 years and the most "expert" is just guessing without skills and real knowledge

So many situations I had like this...: "this painting would be that artist? ohh it wouldn't... why? because it doesn't have a signature or the signature is too curved...??? or this painting is not in the same style exactly --> it means: 2 mins with google and if he couldn't find a similar painting than it isn't that artist (because I don't want to risk my reputation if I'm wrong)... christies and sothebys have the same process

This forum is the opposite of this superficial painting world, thank you so much again guys it is so calming being here
