That is very nice, but personally, I am struggling to help you. 😊
It could well be Japanese, but this technique is also used by potters in western studios. I would say it is probably 20th c as there were famous potters (Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach for example) using wax resist which I imagine raised the profile of this technique during this period.
However, I really am not sure as I find these pieces hard to identify, but 20thc Japanese would be my guess. Sometimes old Japanese pieces retain a fresh look so it will probably turn out to be much older. 😆 How was it described by the seller?
@julia Hi Julia, thanks for taking a look! Unfortunately it didn't come with any background information but like you said I did come across a couple of Shoji Hamada pieces that have a very similar design. Probably inspired by.
