I am trying to understand what it is? I think I've seen this mark somewhere in a past, but I don't recall.. Japanese dish and looks like 20c.

@watership Todd, not 100% positive sure this is Japanese. But I don't see Europe in this dish. Thailand, to nicely done to be made in Thailand 😂 And even less Chinese in this.
I've seen this mark before, but can't remember where and on what. Hopefully someone will know something more.
I have been looking at that, too. It is quite a puzzle so I did an image search and found a similar one with France written on it. This one looks to have had that erased, possibly to try to bump up the price?
I should add that I have not seen that mark before. I didn't look any further. It is possible it might be Japanese or Chinese made for a French company. Â

@julia France - then supposed to be Samson which widely copied Chinese styles. Julia, maybe you have a link to that plate which you did found?
I was thinking possibly Hong Kong, but Julia may be on to something...

I scrolled further down the image results and found another on Etsy that may explain that weird red blob-type mark, because this really does not look like how Europeans would mark a 20th c plate unless their mark was immediately recognisable. Does this look to you like there is something written in Asian characters underneath?
I don't know about it being Limoges but although there is something under the red, it is written in green like France is, so the writing seems more likely European script than Asian.Â
@julia Julia, this is French porcelain mark. I am guessing Limoges. 100% Europe/France.
French they had to leave "France" visible for customs to clear. I know, there was a law for the export porcelain, porcelain which exported to Europe or from Europe, they had to have country of origins stamped/written on a piece in order to pass customs.Â
Chantilly trumpet mark. On a plate is something different. I am assuming, stamp is "Limoges mark" and red hand written mark is maker mark itself. So far I understand, they used to mark "Limoges" stamp mark and then personal maker mark.
I thought maybe the top word was the place it was made, but I have only made out a couple of letters which don't make sense. It can't be Chantilly but would fit in with their style.
You may be correct about a Limoges origin as I found this with more red hiding the word Limoges and the addition in the same red of the Chantilly mark and name.
It looks like someone is hiding the Limoges origin and then either trying to pass them off as Japanese (hence the odd Asian looking mark on the plate you posted) or as Chantilly.
Very odd, but interesting, too. 😊Â
