It looks ok for late 19th century to me. Lively depicted people and horses. If it’s a modern fake it’s a very good one.
I was so sure it is 19thC too. Until my contact says it’s not. 😆
ugh. Do you think it has any reason to be modern? I keep looking and I still don’t understand why it could be modern. 😢
Hi Kodousa,
It's difficult to determine especially if your lacking knowledge/experience with these types of porcelain.
I am not an expert on said Kangxi wares. I am more into jades and republican period porcelain. Some new examples of Kangxi wares are excellent.
In my opinion yours is not Kangxi period. Nor is it 19th century. I think it's a recent copy. I don't like the base, washed out blue and lack of handling (soft flaws). I do hope I am wrong!!
I along with others would be very interested in what Peter has to say.
Mark
Very lively, my heart was almost pounding watching the action. 😊
The base looks ok, I think. Although, I do think the circles around the top of the neck and the bottom look a little out of place.
Is there a kind of ridge running around the neck, it often is there on these vases, but I can't quite tell from your pictures. Sorry, I am on a small screen and the glaze appears rather shiny. Is that lighting or is it quite shiny?
It really is quite amazing how the action has been caught.
Yes the bridge is there. I like the scene a lot too. 🤗

My other friend I have also said the same thing. He said it is modern. That’s why i was so scare to pay for it. I probably call the auction house and see if they let me get out w a small fine.
What was it described as?
Mark
The auction house? They did not date it. Just mention Chinese blue and white vase.
That's a big problem imo. They have left it in the wind so to speak. They either knew it was new or they did not know etc. Sadly a lot of these types of things are turning up every where.
I would still ask Peter asap. He is very good with Kangxi pieces.

Okay I will submit a request now. The steps mention pictures should be taken outdoor but these are all I have. Hope Peter has enough to judge. I will keep everyone posted once I hear back from Peter.
I have now found what is described as a Kangxi vase with the circles top and bottom, not very neatly done but they are both there.
The decoration isn't as nice as on yours and I think this is the problem: the decoration on yours seems too good for a 19th c revival piece, even if that foot rim suggests 19th c is more likely. Then one starts thinking it might be modern.
I think if you are spending that much money, it is worth paying a small fee and asking Peter. Yes, do let us know what he says. You never know, maybe it is Kangxi. I am going to compare foot rims. That decoration is just so good.

Okay. Thanks so much. I just submitted and paid the fee for Peter to look. Hopefully he can get an answer from these pictures.
I am a little disappointed you subsequently say that you have won this piece and only now asking information to decide whether to pay or not.
The worst type of bidder in my opinion.
Vic
You are 100% correct. I don’t blame anyone but me. But I have to choose between me losing $1200 on a new vase or let the auction house sells it again on their next sale, I’ll just choose to help me save the $1200 when I still have the chance.
Like Tam said, it is really worth asking Peter about it. If it is late 19th century, and that is what I suspect, 1100 to 1200 Dollar would still be a bargain.
Chris
Yeah. Agreed. I have seen this type for C19th/20th do bring $1800-2000+. I looked up a couple on rob michels sales and saw that.
I am waiting on Peter now. I am wondering what he thinks. I hope he thinks it’s late 19thC like my original thought. Fingers crossed.
The footrim on this vase from Bonhams is very similar I think?? They date theirs 19thC. What do you all think? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
