I found for sale, it is only £2 at the moment. It is 9 inches in Diameter. It does have a chipped rim. However what are your thoughts, It looks like a transfer print but if you look closely the line's have a start and finish and are consistent.

My thoughts Chinese export, if I were to guess an age mid Victorian. Manufactured for the up and comming middle class folks.
In my opinion a Nanking plate, they were made from 1780-1820 and are handpainted, often in suprisingly high quality. The one you found seems to be even more elaborately painted than one I bought for GBP 30. Those export plates are still affordable and they look very nice.

Here is the link for ebay, i just realised, this seller has a plate listed in the daily ebay listings here on bidamount. So i guess it is good enough.

Sold for £72 in the end , but someone still got a very good deal , even with the rim chip, it's a lovely plate .

it's lovely, both plates. victorian and qing fun mix. if it's as shingami's nanking plate then that's a bargain isnt it. it always makes me doubtful when listings' too low or too high.
Older you say, well I will have to pay more attention to flow blue while out hunting. I always have associated this style of decoration a Victorian, being that I see so much of it I just don’t look at it any more. I think that may change. Sorry to misinform Short Dong.

I though flow blue was the Japanese plates where the underglaze blue runs or blurs during firing?
This qianlong plate looks at first glance like many Victorian willow pattern plates which were transfer -printed. But of course it's hand-done , and much earlier. My understanding is that once the method for making porcelain was discovered and copied by English manufacturers in the early 1800s, the market for Chinese export blue and white in the UK dried up (because it was more expensive and took longer to make and deliver). - so in England most C18th blue and white tableware will be Chinese, but most C19th will be English.
In the USA , however, because there weren't so many local manufacturers the Chinese continued to export blue and white (sometimes called Nanking pattern) through the C19th. Nanking is common in the US, but not in Europe , I believe, and can be much cruder in decoration than the C18th qianlong pieces.

In Britain they started transfer printing in the second half of the 18th century. This made blue and white porcelain affordable to more people than before and demand was high. The Chinese tried to compete and also did the very elaborate patterns that transfer printing made possible, but they did them by hand painting, as labor cost was incredibly low. As Tam said, in Britain printed porcelain became common, but in the American market you find these high quality painted items like Fitzhugh or Nanking. The best are before 1800, then quality started to decline.

cantonese nanking export plates were for the american market, im told hybrids were made also for the domestic (chinese) market. the victorian plates are printed just as shinigami says and the hand painted imports were cheap, same design i think you find them in homes in uk i've seen them displayed by its frame hooked on the octagon, rather than on a stand, same type i think they are very collectable, and as tableware fine china they last.
sorry, i'd meant to write that they were imported, not cheap, chinese scenes hand painted plates were brought in.

Tam, I was just lumping this style of decoration in with the flow blue monicker as a generic term be it English, Chinese or Japanese.
